I think I can speak for 99% of our fanbase when I say no one cares how you envisioned our first NCAA win would be and that it didn't live up to your expectations. It WAS our programs first NCAA win and it WAS the first NCAA win for any HL team since Butler left. If you still lived in the area, you would have seen the impact that win had on our fanbase and community. It has brought out some true pride in our school. There has been one hell of a lot more vocal Wright State fans proudly wearing their Raider gear in the community since we won that game. I cannot think of the last place I have gone to locally this entire year where I didn't see at least 1 person wearing some of our gear. That was unheard of 20, 10, even 5 years ago. If you think that victory was "close to meaningless", you are clueless. Wright State's basketball program has not achieved the level of success any of us want for it, but we have had some major setbacks along the way: Underhill being fired for shoplifting, Biancardi being fired for breaking NCAA rules at his previous job, the school going into a financial crisis and having to eliminate sports. All of those things have set the program back and it is also the reason I remain a faithful Raider's fan. Because no matter how many times we have been knocked down, we refuse to stay down on the mat. We get back up and fight. This year did not live up to what any of us hoped it would be. Nagy has a winning track record here and at his previous job. I am hopeful that he is going to learn from this season and get the program back on track next year. I AM a Raider fan and will always root for our success. I sure in the hell won't mock our achievements like you two. Well said Big D.

“It's a great time to be at Wright State! New student enrollment is up by more than 10 percent, and the number of first-time students from underrepresented groups increased by 27.6 percent. Join us as we leap into a new era!“ -WSU Facebook page This is great news for the university and the athletic department. Other programs in the HL and MAC have been using our financial problems to negatively recruit against us for the last several years in all sports. With the reduction in faculty size and th gradual increase in enrollment we should be turning the page on our financial woes of the past. Now we just need to keep the momentum going so we can get our athletic department out of this god forsaken conference.

I see Garcia as a very low risk, high reward gamble. He is paying his own way to be here, so you have to think he is motivated to play D1 ball and he is being given a very extended audition to prove he deserves to be on scholarship. If all works out, I think he will redshirt this year while he puts on weight and learns our system. He will be given a scholarship and be a really nice addition to next year's team. If he can't cut it, he won't be here next year. No harm, no foul. We aren't tying up a scholarship on him this year, so he is basically paying his way to get an extended audition for next year. I hope he puts it all together and ends up being a steal for Nagy and co.

I logged on to our Athletic web site this evening in the hope of ordering season tickets. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do that, or at least I wasn't able to figure out how to do it. It appears that the only tickets being sold right now are Renewal tickets for previous season ticket holders. It seems to me, given the declining attendance problem, that by this time on the calendar that season tickets should be available to be purchased on the web site. I also noticed that all season ticket holders, regardless of the level of their tickets, will have to donate at least $100 to the Raider Athletic Fund to park at any of the lots adjacent to the NC. Otherwise, you will have to park out behind the pond and either take a bus shuttle or walk to the lower entrance at the back of the Arena. This seems counter productive to me. I was a Premium ticket holder back when the NC was affectionately known as the Nut House, and a pass to Lot #1 was included in the ticket package. The lot was nearly full all the time. Now Lot 1 is maybe 1/3 full, and this policy will make it even emptier. When I talk to casual fans about attending games, buying season tickets, etc the number 1 complaint I hear is the parking issue and the ingress and egress time it takes before and after games. I'm afraid this policy is now going to piss off our season ticket holders at a time of declining attendace when the Athletic Department should be making it easier, not harder, to park and get into the arena. The $100 donation is not new this year.

I'm more interested in what this means for our current position. Mak Manciel is set to announce next week, and I was under the impression he was our #1 target. What does Davis committing to us do to that potential recruitment (if anything)? We still have several offers hanging out there, but I believe we're down to 1 scholarship now. Big D, some insight? Amari's twitter commitment announcement said he was planning on transferring to Wright State for his "senior year". He didn't say he was coming here for his remaining 2 years of eligibility. I believe that was intentional. He may change his mind, but I think we need to plan on him being a one and done so we really need to be going after Mak Maciel full steam ahead trying to get his commitment too. We also need to make sure Mak knows that even though we added Amari, we want to have a deep team this year with multiple scorers. We had 4 guys that averaged double digits or very close last season. The year before was the same. We like to spread the ball around and have a lot of scoring options. We need to make sure he knows that and sees the potential for him to be a star here. His other 2 finalist are not good teams. If he wants to be on a team that has serious NCAA tournament potential, we are his best bet. If we get Manciel, Nagy really has the option of going 3 guards/2 bigs next year or 4 guards/1 big if he wants to play faster. I think he would utilize both options based on who we are playing whichever line-up gives us the best match ups. A 4 guard line-up could be Trey Calvin, Amari Davis, Mak Maciel, Tim Finke, and Blake Sisley. That is a very athletic line up with multiple 3 point shooters, multiple guys that can create their own shot, and 4 really good defenders all on the court at the same time. If we go big or small, we have the potential to be a great team next year. I think the key is to get Maciel to realize that and join the Raider Family.

I don't think this has anything to do with our conference either. Kids are transferring from schools in every conference. I think the number of D1 transfers is over 1100 now. Kids are leaving schools looking for whatever they consider being a better opportunity for them. For someone like James Manns that simply means playing time. For someone like Tanner, I agree with Big D and think it is about the money. Honestly, I think we would have had a better chance to make the NCAAs next year and win a few games if everyone would have returned than Ohio State does next year. They were a middle of the pack Big 10 team this year and they lost their best players. I doubt they even make the tournament next year.

From the article: Nagy, who has three available scholarships, has taken a handful of transfers over his six years, and three have become HL honorees: Cole Gentry, Bill Wampler and Tim Finke. “Every situation is not the same,” he said. “When you look at Cole and Bill and Tim, they’re all kids we had relationships with previously. That makes it easier for us when you know them and know their heart. “But we certainly aren’t going to run around and do the transfer thing every year to restack the team.”This is my biggest concern about Coach Nagy moving forward. He is like an old guy that doesn't want to give up his flip phone when everyone else has moved onto a smart phone. The transfer portal problem isn't going to go away. If anything, it is probably only going to get worse for mid-majors. Nagy wants to have a team full of 4 and 5 year players that he brings straight in from high school where he can develop them or his preference would be to red-shirt and develop them. You cannot trust guys to stick around like that anymore. You can hope the core of your team is made up of 4 year players you bring in from high school, but nowadays you have to be recruiting JUCO and transfer players to supplement your roster. If Nagy thinks he is only going to be able to look at guys he has previously recruited as transfer possibilities, I really worry about his future as a college coach.

Not surprising. I think we will hear the same news about Riley Voss if he has any eligibility left and wants to try to play next year. I don't think we would have honored either guy on senior night if we planned on having them back next year.

I think as long as Coach Nagy is coming back next year, we will keep our core guys together.
