There are only 3 HL games between now and this Saturday, Jan. 15th. All 3 games involve the bottom tier teams in play so I don't see any of them as being significant.
01/11/2005 Cleveland State @ UW-Green Bay 01/12/2005 UW-Milwaukee @ Youngstown State 01/13/2005 Butler @ Loyola
One thing we know for sure is that G-B will be 5-0 in the HL after Tues. game. The Butler vs Loyola game might very well be for 7th place.
I like the fact that Loyola will have only 1 day to prepare for their game with us on Saturday. I guess you could say they have a day and a half but the bottom line is that they won't that much time to prepare.

Raiderfan, I think you are getting ahead of yourself. Unless beating Cleveland State counts as two wins, UWGB will be 4-0, and playing at Milwaukee I doubt they go 5-0, but you never know. Next Saturday's UWGB vs. UWM should be a good game, but I think UWM has too much firepower at home for the Pheonix.
Loyola-Butler should be a good game if history prevails. No matter how good or bad Butler has been in the past, and how good or bad Loyola has been in the past, Butler has always had trouble winning at Loyola. At 0-2 Butler really needs to win this game if they want to be a factor in the HL race.
And by coincidence, UWM no matter how well they are playing always seems to have trouble with YSU in Youngstown. Although the penguins do not have the 3pt shooters of the past, Milwaukee could overlook them with the big UWGB game coming up on Saturday.
So I wouldn't just throw these games out as being insignificant, one little stumble against a bottom tier team and it could eliminate somebody from the 1st place race.

I would rather have the next 5 days to prepare for UWM and 1 day for Loyola. The HL did us no favors with our schedule this year. I still can't figure out why they have us making 2 seperate trips to Wisconsin. There are only 9 teams in the conference, you would think that they could schedule the road trips for the Wisconsin schools together and the Chicago schools together.

Big D,
You would think they would be able to schedule the Chicagos and Wisconsins together, but NO. We used to have these trips scheduled together until Youngstown State joined the league. Just another thing to thank the Penguins for.

bballraider, I could be wrong but I thought G-B was 4-0 now and with a win tomorrow night against CSU they would go to 5-0. Are they only 3-0 now?
Big D, we probably just see things different but if I had to chose which team to only have 1 day to prepare for it would be UWM. My thinking is that we would have to play a near perfect game at UWM to win any way but Loyola is a team we should beat if we are prepared. If the situation were reversed we might lose at UWM any ways even with 5 days to prepare and then to only have 1 day to prepare for Loyola which would leave us vulnerable there as well. Maybe it's just my warped way to look at things?
I'd love to see us sweep our road games but winning on the road in college basketball is difficult.

Thanks for clearing me up bballraider. G-B is only 3-0 as it stands now. What I should have said is after Tuesday's game G-B will be 4-0 and remain in first place.
The G-B @ UWM game Saturday will be and intersting score to watch. It will be interesting to see if G-B can hang with the Panthers on the road or even win at Milwakee.
Thanks again for the clarification.

If we bring our A game I think we can beat anyone in the HL anywhere. I don't like our chances against UWM if we only have 1 day to prepare and more importantly rest up. UWM plays a deep bench and they like to run on offense and press on defense. I think we would have a better chance if we had more than 1 days rest. Loyola sucks. I think we could beat them on no days rest. They have very little talent on their team.

Big D,
Gotta disagree a little bit on your comment about the league not doing us any favors schedule-wise. Here' my spin on it:
The team has a full week to prepare for the next two games. The guys will be rested and have plenty of time to prepare for both teams (Loyola & UWM). We get Loyola first, which is the one that (as a fan) you want to be sure to win and hope that they can find a way at UWM.
They then have plenty of time (4 days) to rest prepare for the Butler game, which this year appears to fall in the "winnable on paper" category.
We then return home for UIC and have (3 days) to prepare for that game. Any home game is considered a "likely" win.
Next up on the road is Cleveland State on short turnaround time (2 days) to prepare, but that one qualifies as in the "winnable on paper" category.
Pause for a moment and look at this stretch of games. After that Cleveland State game, we will have played only five games over a three week period......perfect.
Granted, the next stretch is compressed (UWM, Loyola, Butler) with three games in six days, but they're at home and the team should be well rested. Three "likely wins".
The next road game at Detroit will be tough after those other three games, especially on short turn-around time, but you can't catch all the breaks. This doesn't seem to fall into either the "winnable on paper" or "likely" category, but you just never know with these guys.
To wrap up, we then have only four games (2 road, 2 home) over the next two weeks to close out the season, with the one at UIC being the biggest widcard.
I personally think the schedule lays out quite nicely for us.
GO RAIDERS!!!

Good game in Green Bay.
UWGB is up at the half by 2. 41-43. But there is a lot of time left. Both teams are shooting over 50% for the game, and CSU led by as many as 13 in the first half, they outscored CSU by 9 in the final 3 minutes of the half to take the lead. Westley from CSu had 19 in the first half.

UWGB-CSU update:
6 minutes remaining UWGB up by 1, 67-66.
Westley for CSU has 33 pts.
