I was looking at the updated stats for the team earlier this evening and a couple of numbers jumped out at me.
SCORING:
Dashaun 15.3 PPG & 51.9 FG PCT
Zakee 12.3 PPG & 41.5 FG PCT
Drew 10.7 PPG & 44.2 FG PCT
Zach 10.3 PPG & 46.9 FG PCT
Everrett 5.9 PPG & 45.9 FG PCT
Jaron 4.1 PPG & 45.7 FG PCT
Jordan 3.3 PPG & 51.4 FG PCT
First, I love that we have 4 players in double figures. Top that off with the fact that in the last 4 games there has been 4 different players lead us in scoring.
The number that jumped out at me was that Dashaun is making 52% of his shots. This is from a kid who shoots from all over the court. He will drive to the hoop, he'll pull up for a short jumper, and he'll drop in a 3. It isn't like he is a post player who takes only high percentage shots. Unless you count Jordan and his limited minutes Dashaun is the only player making over half his shots. Zach is getting close at 47%.
TAKING THE 3'S:
Zakee 40.2%
Jaron 40%
Dashaun 39.1%
Drew 30.8%
Everrett 23.8%
I didn't realize that we had 3 guys making over 39% from 3 point land. Talk about a great inside/outside game. I am excited to see Jaron starting to look for the open shot on the perimeter. He has a nice looking shot. For some reason I thought Everrett's was much higher then the 24% he is at.
THE DREADED FREE THROWS:
Zakee 81.4%
Drew 77.8%
Dashaun 69.4%
Jaron 62.5%
Zach 58.5%
Jordan 45.5%
Everrett 40%
It hurts to look at this stat. We only have 3 guys making over 69%, ouch! It is interesting that Dashaun seems to take all the techincal FT's when the stats say that Zakee should be shooting them. It hurts that both our post players, Zach & Jordan, are poor FT shooters. Free throw shooting has already cost us 2 games for sure.
GO GET ME THAT BOARD, REBOUNDS PER GAME:
Dashaun 6 rpg
Zach 5.6 rpg
Everrett 4.8 rpg
Drew 4.5 rpg
Zakee 3.1 rpg
I love that we have 4 players that average 4.5 rpg or more. This tells me that everyone is doing their job and making rebounding a priority. Jordan is averaging 3.3 rpg in limited play. I think he easily leads the team if he plays 25 or minutes per game. It is nice that one of your best rebounders can come off the bench. I still find it interesting that our point guard leads the team. I don't know if I have ever heard of that happening before.
ASSIST & TURNOVERS:
Dashaun 4.1 apg & 3.3 TO's
Zach 2.5 apg & 3.3 TO's
Jaron 2.1 apg & 1.7 TO's
I love that Dashaun leads us in assist but the 3.3 turnovers is pretty high. The stat that jumped out to me is that Zach, our post player, is tied for the team lead in TO's. Like our FT shooting TO's is a weakness of this team. If we perform well in these 2 area's we will probably win most of our HL games.
Just my .02 after looking at the numbers.
