Record 3-12, (1-4 HL)
Blake Schilb 6-7 215 So. F 16.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.7 apg DaJuan Gouard 6-2 175 Sr. G 12.9 ppg, 3.3 apg Dave Telander 6-1 170 Fr. G. 6.5 ppg Tom Levin 6-8 215 Fr. F 5.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg Tyrelle Blair 6-11 220 So. C 5.7 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.5 bpg
Majak Kou 6-5 165 So. G 10.9 ppg Pierre Parker 6-3 180 Fr. G 4.7 ppg
They shoot a ton of 3's. As a team they make just over 33%. They have 4 players that will shoot it from long range:
Schilb 33 PCT Gouard 46 PCT Kou 37 PCT Telander 36 PCT
Both Schilb (3.7) & Gouard (3.1) turn the ball over as many times as they have and assist.
Like us they are very young. With the exception of Gouard everyone else is either a Sophmore or Freshman.
If we keep our focus we should win.

In looking at their lineup they start two freshman and two sophmores along with one lone senior ( does that sound familiar?). Their first two reserves are a sophmore and a freshman. To me the key matchups will be the following.
It appears that Blake Schilb is their "do all" player. He leads the Ramblers in scoring, rebounding and assist. I assume that Drew will draw the assignment of defending Schilb. It should be a good matchup of Sophmores.
Can Zach exploit Tyrelle Blair, their sophmore center, or will Blair give Zach fits with his height advantage and his ability to block shots? To be able to average 1.5 blocks per game says something about his ability to alter a game defensively.
The other matchup I'll be curious to follow is Loyola's senior guard, DaJuan Gouard, on Dashaun. Can Gouard contain Dashaun? Can we keep DaJuan Gouard from having a big game. He is Loyola's second leading scorer. I personally would put Zakee on Gouard since he is taller then Dashaun plus I think that Zakee is a little bit better on the ball defender. This would also allow Dashaun to guard their freshman guard so he won't be exerting as much energy playing defense and considering the minutes that Dashaun logs that is probably a good thing. When Jaron enters the game I see him picking up Gouard on defense.
Who has the better freshman? Everrett will be pitted against a fellow freshman in Tom Levin. Their "numbers" are almost identical as far as ppg and rpg are concerned. It should be a good matchup.
My "keys" to the game would be how well we defend the perimeter since it appears that they are perimeter oriented and, of course, we need to limit our turnovers and make at least 68 percent of our free throws. As long as we don't "beat ourselves" we should be ok but then any game on the road is no guarentee of victory. Any road win is BIG!
Go Raiders!!

Loyola is not as bad as their record shows and should be a tough test in Chicago. They have led many of their games, Loyola has either held the lead or trailed by no more than four points at the 4:00 mark of the second half in nine of its 12 setbacks, but fall apart at the end to lose, some close ones. If they ever figure out how to close out games they will be a formidable challenge. Right now they are young and inconsistent and have not figured out how to win the close ones.
GGWSU, normally I would agree with you on this, but Gouard is coming off a pretty severe knee injury (Dec.12, against UNC) and probably will not be able to play yet against us, if he does he will probably not be able to move very well laterally, so his defense will be lacking and offensively he should ONLY be a threat from outside, and not from driving. But I seriously doubt we see him in this game.
Our main concern is Schilb, my guess is Spencer or Zakee gets this matchup as they are similar players, at times Schilb will even play sort as a point-forward and bring the ball up the court. We also have to watch Kou off the bench as he can get hot from 3pt land (streaky shooter) and can light up the scoreboard. He is also very athletic, with good leaping ability. These two players are mainly outside threats but on occasion go inside.
Inside Levin is a decent player, but still needs to develop some inside moves, my guess is Drew gets this assignment. Blair although tall is not much of a threat, but has showed a little more promise in his recent games and is capable of playing defense. Zach will probably guard Tyrelle. Loyola has another decent inside player in Anthony Smith, who scored 18 against Butler, but has a tendency to get into foul trouble, especially against stronger players. We need to attack Smith when he is in the game to get him in foul trouble and on the bench.
Telander and Parker are freshman guards and have been pretty inconsistent, they will put a good game together once in a while, but overall have not done much to write home about. Parker has a brother that starts for the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA, so he has good bloodlines. We need to play tough defense on these guys and take them out of their game early, so they do not put up one of their good games against us.
Overall I would say WSU should win this one, but Loyola will stay with us for most of the game, but hopefully we can put this game away early and not have to worry down the stretch, but since we have not had that killer instinct when we get up and the fact that Loyola tends to stay with their opponents till late in the game, I am predicting we win by 3. (If we hit our free throws in the end it could be by a wider margin, as I think we will be up by 6+ near the end and they will be fouling us to get back in the game)

This is a game we need to win if we want to really contend for one of the top spots in the league. it is also a game we should win. Anything can happen, but with 5 days to prepare for Loyola I think we win by 8-10 pts.
Go Raiders.

I agree Big D, if we want to be a factor in the HL race this is a game we need and must win, or we are going to have to pick up some upsets elsewhere on the road, such as Monday at UWM. But I suppose if Detroit can do it so can we.
