I stole and edited someone's picture below to try to illustrate my question. Maybe coach Brown is on here and can answer my question.
It seems to me that when we make an entry pass (E) to Karena (K) in what I think of as the low block and he gets double teamed (D and D), we don't give him an available player to pass to.
To me, the only open space on the court is the green area, why does no one ever run into that space and make themselves available for a kick out?
In fact, I noticed in the last game that the guy who throws the entry pass actually vacates that area by running to the top of the key (illustrated by my red arrow) which frees up his defender to double team Karena. Which was painful when it was GrantB making the entry pass and running away from the open spot. We end up with 4 players being guarded by 3 but there is no way for Karena to pass it because between his two defenders and the other three, there are no passing lanes. This is made even worse by our 4 players stand around like spectators since there is nowhere to go that is not already taken either by a defender or a teammate. Best case Karena has to do a 180, not walk and make what is virtually a skip pass or a pass between defenders who are essentially playing an easy zone knowing Karena has no options except shoot, walk or throw into traffic.
What am I missing, why does no one ever run into the open green area?
That person would either be open for a three
Or a defender from the top of the key would follow him opening up at least some space on the other side of the court
Or one of the double teaming defenders would jump out, freeing up Karena.
Obviously I don't know anything about basketball, but this one drives me almost as crazy as not running a 2 for 1 when we get the ball with 63 seconds left in the half.
