I watched Cleveland State against Green Bay and it was very simular to our game against UWGB, just reversed. Cleveland State came out playing really well behind Vinny Zollo who is a tough matchup. Green Bay just wore them down, as CSU is not as good offensively as they have been in recent years. They are fairly athletic on the perimeter but I think our bigger guards will be able to win that particular matchup. I also see an advantage for Karena in the post. I know all league games are dog fights, but I see a grind out Raider win for Thursday night.

I thought there was a rule against dunking during warmup?

Great win at home tonight. We led at halftime and still won. Things are changing. Great to see Grant hitting the 3's again, good sign.

Just got the stats, Grant had 17 points and was 5 for 8 on 3's. 4 players in double figures and one with 9 points. Great team play with balanced scoring.

CSU really is not the same type of team that they have had in the Waters era. That said, Donlon has obviously hitched his wagon on a 7-man rotation and they all played very well. I will say, though, that Biggie Minnis could be a potential defensive liability late in the games. He had a hard time staying in front of Yates, in particular. If he isn't having a good night offensively, he may get pulled late in close games. But tonight, he played very well offensively. Team kind of reminds me of the 2006-2007 team in that it wasn't a very deep team, but they had several 6-4/6-5/6-6 that could play different spots and guard different kinds of guys. Of course, the main differences are a) Better Head Coach, and b) Dashuan Wood. Hopefully Alstork can keep developing, because frankly I think he is our best player.
Nice to Grant get on track. If he can just shoot how he did last year, this team becomes WAY harder to defend, especially the way Biggie can drive and distribute.
Anybody else notice Karena is shooting nearly 70% from FTs?

Gerb, they are winning and playing a much more exciting game. Hopefully will have larger attendance Saturday for Younstown State and another win.

Still Number One in attendance in the Horizon League! ...and 880 below last year's national average, the stat you like to tout in the "see? It's not SO bad" argument. Okay, I'm gonna stop being a downer for a bit. Good to see the Raiders finally picking up some wins as a team. Bring on Jerry Slocumb and his decade of 13 wins per year.

Gerb, I think that sums up a lot of how people should be right now. This rotation of 7 is playing well right now and relatively healthy as it is. The HL is completely wide open spots 2-10. If this team can go 4-1 on this home stand, I honestly like their chances for getting the 2 or 3 seed.
In his first year, DOnlon went 10-8 in HL play.
That team had Tabler, and this one has Benzinger...seems like an equal trade That team had N'Gai-Joe T. and Biggie fill that role individually, much less having them both together Karena is a different kind of center than Land, but may be more offensively effective and gives this team an offensive low post presence that Land and AJ at the time lacked. That team had very little in the way of the 4 spot (Mpondo and Cole) offensively or defensively---JT is better even with a bum knee than those two were that year Nobody is like Vaughn, but Alstork is playing at a great level on both ends of the court. Hughes is really developing, and is playing better at this time of the year than Vest or Battle were at the same point of that season
In other words, when you compare those teams and see how that 2010-2011 team finished (10-8, T5th place), I think that this team in a weaker HL has a very good shot at 11-13 wins as long as they stay healthy. That team had its share of injuries too, but again, as long as this group stays healthy and they still shoot the 3 at the same percentage the rest of the year I see them finishing in the top 3.
After seeing early HL play, here is how WSU may shake out: Oakland already has two league losses and we should at least split (1 win) We already have beat UWM at home, so good chance for a sweep (2 wins) CSU, UIC, and NKU we can sweep (6 wins) Split with Detroit and UWGB (2 wins) YSU (at least split---they look dangerous this year and should not be completely overlooked at all---1 win)
I'm assuming, unfortunately, we get swept by Valpo. Also, we could always get upset by one of the three bottom feeders on an off-shooting night from 3, but still sweep YSU or one of the Detroit schools.
