3 games in, and Mark Alstork is the leading scorer in the nation with an average of 32.7 points a game. Before all the grumps try to eat this post alive, I realize this is just the start of the season...but we have to celebrate small victories and Alstork has been playing like the Horizon POY. I thought this was interesting/fun to share. I hope it continues. I hope we continue to grow and play well. It has been fun watching the last three games.

After a paltry 23 points in 22 minutes last night, Alstork is now only tied for first nationally in scoring. Shameful. Absolutely shameful. Going further down the list, Youngstown's Cameron Morse is the fourth leading scorer, but he's more than two points off first. Valpo's Alec Peters is twelfth. Can't even crack the top ten. Pathetic. Come on, HL! Get your acts together! Stop phoning it in and put the ball in the dang hoop!

When I read that article last week a few things ran through my head. 1) It's smart for Nagy to enter into those types of buy games...games that are potentially winnable and not buy games from top 10 or top 20 programs that will simply be a beatdown. 2) Just how far the WSU program dropped in the last few years. We are now taking buy games from programs that were once our men's basketball peers. Not too long ago we agreed to a home-and-home series with SIU and Loyola was once a weak member of the Horizon. Now we're being bought by them...
I believe Nagy was a good hire and I like his approach. We just need to have patience as he turns the ship around.

The term buy games is different when you compare the Loyola and SIU games. Teams are now buying games to make scheduling easier. Instead of doing a true home and home series some programs chose to buy the one time game at home or take the one time game on the road. We did not make $90k from SIU or Loyola.

Don't know where you are getting your info from, but they are wrong. We got 2 very good paychecks from playing those games.

A problem I see with the team make up is the lack of "The Killer" attitude. The game I saw some of this attitude. I'm not advocating embarrassing the other team but it is difficult to shift gears. Many teams who don't finish strong will tend to have a let down in the second half of their games. The team who is in the habit of finishing strong will usually have a winning record.

I'm not sure if the Vegas 16 will be back at the end of this season. At the end of last season's tournament the tourney chairman said it would come back, but remember the Vegas 16 could only get 8 teams and it's a pay-to-play tournament. I'm not a fan of end of season pay-to-play tournaments and believe the $$$ spent can be better used in advancing and promoting the program.

Tonight's coach's show was great. All the players were there and they signed one of the team posters for each of us in attendance. Nice Christmas present for my grandsons. Opti Aw, nice! Good touch.

Mark Adams is always a great listen. Thought he had some good thoughts on the Raiders.
