His parents sent out an update on Facebook last night. He broke the C5 vertebrae. The surgery went as planned to fuse vartebrae together to repair the damage. As of Sunday night, he has feelings to the touch from his shoulders down his arms to his fingers. He can also bend his arms at the elbows and shrug his shoulders. As of right now however, he has no feeling from his waist down.

Not sure who this guy is, and before you guys go crazy, yes I could look this up on my own. I guess this is a PSA, be aware of who the creator of the go fund me you contribute to. Do some research and make sure it's not a scam. I'm not saying it is, but the point is don't fall for scams. Be cations when donating money. Sad that I have to say that after a terrible accident like this, but unfortunately that's the world we live in today.

Latest update from Ryan Custer's family:
Just wanted to give another quick update...Ryan is still using a breathing tube but the possibility of a tracheotomy performed tomorrow is becoming more evident to avoid pneumonia. There has not been any improvement in his movement or sensitivity to the touch, but we know this is not a race but a journey. Ryan's immediate future is becoming clearer to him now that he is not as sedated. There were some tears for Ryan and fear in his eyes, but my parents reassured him that this is temporary and that he will fight the big fight along with the help of his many friends and family. Ryan also realizes the overwhelming support he has had and the amount of visitors that have stopped by. We now feel that he needs to concentrate on resting and all the various treatments to get stronger. In discussions with the doctors, we all feel it's best if we limit visitors to immediate family members only until Ryan is more stable. With that being said, anyone is more than welcome to come to the hospital waiting room and hang out. Being together is somewhat therapeutic for our family!! The only time I have seen my mom cry is when she hears about the love and support as well as all the prayers for Ryan. My family is simply overwhelmed and so appreciative of this as they believe the power of prayer is what will get him through this very difficult time. Thank you also to Diane and Steve Held for creating a gofundmepage. Words can't describe our gratitude. And finally thank you to everyone who will be attending the prayer service at our lady of victory Wednesday night. Keep the prayers coming! Love you all

www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1665291707113925&id=1663875643922198This morning Ryan had an operation to put a trach in. He looks so much better now without the tubes in his mouth. Still using a ventilator but hopefully will be able to cap it in the near future and will be able to talk and possibly eat. For now we can at least try to read his lips if he needs something. More alert too which is good and bad as he sometimes just stares into space and it breaks your heart. The trach sounds worse than it is and should just be a short term option as it was most important for him to get the tubes out as soon as possible. We are reading him some of the posts that people send and he is so overwhelmed and grateful for the support. He is also so thankful for the prayer service at Victory tonight. It is truly a blessing to have so much support and prayers. We also told him about the article on ESPN about his injury and that he will be the next 30 for 30 when he comes back stronger than ever. Baby steps but will try our best to keep his spirits up.

The Trach was done because long term incubation tube can damage vocal cords. It makes t easier for him as he is more alert.
