Softball is scheduled to open the season this afternoon vs. DePaul in the Rosemont Dome. Chicagoland is getting slammed by snow today so not sure if the games are being played as scheduled.

Yes, it's being played in the Rosemont Dome. However, Chicago is under a Winter Storm Warning. It doesn't appear the 1st game (scheduled for 11:30 start local time) has started...

Fair enough, I had looked on the WSU website before my last post to see if times had changed ( so, I thought that was a possibility )

I'm downtown and all the offices in our building who even bothered to open for the day are shutting down before 5:00 because the snow just keeps coming. They might be able to play, but getting people from point A to point B safely has been an issue for the last 18 hours and will only get worse.

Didn't see a tournament schedule but, DePaul is beating IUPUI. DePaul plays WSU next and then the Raiders play Loyola.

Don't plan on updating every softball and baseball game but, Raiders gave up 3 in the bottom of the 6th and Loyola run-ruled them 11-1. Try again tomorrow.

Although Loyola hit a 3 run homer to end the game, the run rule made it 9-1 officially. To account for that, the player was given a ground-rule double.

For WSU and the player that hit the home run. How does that work? She hit a home run but is only credited with a double in her personal stats?? That doesn't sound fair... WSU was picked 3rd in the HL preseason poll. I expect this to be a rebuilding process. Hopefully the softball team can get ahead of the curve in rebuilding like the men's hoop team has.

I normally believe in rules and consequences but, in this case, I don't think it is fair that the Loyola player loses the homer and 2 RBI's. I don't feel any better seeing the Raiders get run ruled and, losing by 8 instead of 10 doesn't take away from the fact that the girl really had more than a ground-rule double.
For some reason both Loyola and WSU has not posted the box score, just saw a recap from the Ramblers softball schedule.
Pitching will be the key but, offense was a little off.

I understand that the run rule would end with the first player scoring in the bottom of the 6th in this instance and the ball is dead and the players 2 and 3 could touch the next base and walk off the field...fine. I'd make an exception to allow all of the runners to score if the run rule was caused by a homer assuming all 3 runners touched each base. I don't have a vote to change the rule and everyone except maybe the player and her family won't lose any sleep over it.

Correction - although I fussed about the run rule game versus Loyola...the player wasn't cheated out of a homer and wasn't cheated out of another 2 RBI's. There was some confusion at the end of the game and it was originally posted incorrectly. Bob Noss told me at the shows held at TJ Chumps that the Loyola player bounced the ball over the fence and the scorekeeper only thought it went out. So, never mind on the fussing, the player deserved a ground rule double.
