As per my usual tradition, I present the attendance figures for the 2017-2018 league season. A few points of note before I get to the figures. First, exhibition games were thrown out. Half of the teams don't track attendance for these games, so it's not really apples to apples. Second, only games played on the teams home court (or courts in a few instances) counted. Games played on neutral floors were thrown out. Games played at secondary arenas which we saw at a few schools this year were counted as a home game. Official attendance stats were taken at face value. There is some ambiguity as to what attendance is really is (looking at you YSU). But that's all I can really work with. First, the total # of fans to take in games at home games for league teams. (less exhibition games): WSU 68,866 NKU 57,292 Oakland 47,453 GB 39,601 YSU 35,930 UIC 35,412 MKE 22,587 CSU 18,946 Detroit 18,614 IUPUI 13,737 Next, overall average attendance for all home games: WSU 4304 NKU 4092 Oakland 3164 YSU 2994 GB 2475 UIC 2083 MKE 1506 CSU 1353 Detroit 1241 IUPUI 1057 Next, attendance average for home conference games only: WSU 5076 NKU 4558 Oakland 3190 YSU 3084 GB 2678 UIC 2153 MKE 1594 CSU 1343 Detroit 1316 IUPUI 1125 Here's a new one, road team draws. That is, what is the average number of fans that were at your ROAD games: GB 2876 WSU 2751 Detroit 2704 IUPUI 2678 CSU 2668 NKU 2639 Oakland 2610 MKE 2548 YSU 2339 UIC 2305 Lastly, top 10 draws on the season. Ironically, they were all league games: Detroit @ WSU 7453 NKU @ WSU 7205 Green Bay @ NKU 6455 MIlwaukee @ WSU 5713 CSU @ YSU 5483 WSU @ YSU 5371 Oakland @ NKU 5362 WSU @ NKU 4987 Milwaukee @ NKU 4819 Green Bay @ WSU 4714 Bottom line, WSU continues to lead the league in attendance. NKU is a close second, YSU grossly overstated their attendance, and we all know it. I am glad we are on top but it's like winning the homeliest kid in the class contest. I appreciate the work you put in to put this together. We will blow these numbers away next year and I will go out a limb and say by 19/20 season home attendance will average better than our numbers and NKU's numbers this year combiended.

Those road draw numbers are interesting to me. Such little discrepancy between them tells me that this league really doesn't have a marque team that draws casual fans. People just don't care if you're playing a good NKU team or a terrible CSU team. I would think Butler led the league by a wide margin their last several years in that category.

Pretty incredible we topped the IUPUI season attendance in two games.

There were no abnormal trends. Weekend games generally had higher attendance than weekday games. Most teams had an uptick in "their rivalry" game. I suspected we'd lead this category too, but there's really no spread at all. I had the same general takeaways you had.

Pretty incredible we topped the IUPUI season attendance in two games. 1/6 of their total home attendance came from Friday's WSU game.

Lastly, top 10 draws on the season. Ironically, they were all league games:
Detroit @ WSU 7453 NKU @ WSU 7205 Green Bay @ NKU 6455 MIlwaukee @ WSU 5713 CSU @ YSU 5483 WSU @ YSU 5371 Oakland @ NKU 5362 WSU @ NKU 4987 Milwaukee @ NKU 4819 Green Bay @ WSU 4714
A lot of that has to do with the anemic ooc schedules put together. I haven't looked at it, but I bet 3 of 4 WSU's lowest attended games consisted of the 2 non D-I programs and the Sat. after Thanksgiving...otherwise known as the day OSU plays that team up north in football. And if my memory is correct wasn't it a late afternoon game?

This program was ready to pop attendance-wise a lot the last 10 years, but losing three HL finals dulled that momentum. With this one, and this group and recruits coming in (can't wait to see Wampler and Manns too), and UD dipping, there is a great window of opportunity locally to recoup a lot of fans on the fence and get attendance to 8k+. It will take better non-conference home games, but now is a time when it can happen.

The non con scheduling trend is one of the reasons I have doubts. Hard to get people excited for a matchup with Mt. St. Joseph's. Then again, just ask opti. Winning can fix everything.

It will be hard to get good teams to schedule us when there is a chance to lose.

It will be hard to get good teams to schedule us when there is a chance to lose. It will be difficult to get Power-5 programs, but that's the way it already is...That isn't going to change. However, there a quite a few top-100ish programs in the same boat as Wright State...looking to improve their resume with a schedule that reflects their NCAA goal. Our multi-year series with Western Kentucky is a good series, hopefully the staff can add more like that this coming year.

WKY is a good series, we might be able to get a Power 5 like a Georgia Tech to play us but I can’t see any of them wanting to play at the Nutt House. Got a better chance getting top 100 non-power 5’s to come to the Nutt.

m and hh, there is a solution that we may be a candidate for. as coach continues to build us we begin looking attractive to some of the better early season tournaments. invites to Hawaii or one of the other good ones give us a chance to match up with the big boys on a neutral court. win a few and we are being looked at differently. you do not get those invites when you have an rpi of 180. it is those kind of games that give us a chance to build a resume that earns us an 11-12 seed instead of a 14-15. that enhances our chances of winning some games in the dance.
