you may be missing the point there drop. this will be a perfect opportunity to get the 9th, 10th and 11th place teams from the big boy leagues into the dance with sub 500 records.

Don't think for a second the ACC is being altruistic with their proposal. Big D, Keith, and gerb are spot on--it's about getting more P-5 programs into the dance. And reality of the geographical college landscape is in direct contrast to their rationale to place the other "First Four" out west to counteract a travel disadvantage. 83% of all D I Programs are located in the Central or Eastern Time zones. Of all the D I programs out west the Pac-12 comprises 20% of all D I basketball institutions (12 out of 60). For reference, the ACC makes up only 5% of all D I programs in the eastern half of the country. It would probably been considered over-the-top for the Pac-12 to propose a Western First Four so for some reason the ACC is carrying their water on this. I wouldn't rule out a quid pro quo between those conferences if the NCAA moves forward with this proposal....

Uconn winning the national championship in 2011 is what the ACC will point to as reason to let big conferences get more in. They had a .500 conference record in the Big East and was ranked 9th tied with 2 other teams. Made it to the tournament and won it. I don't mind adding more teams to the tournament, as long as they can continue to keep up the popularity.

They'll say if it wasn't for the First Four VCU wouldn't have been in the tourney and would have never had the opportunity to win and advance to the Final Four. However, the fact is VCU should have never been in the First Four. They were terribly under-seeded. They should have been more like an 8 seed. They had a #31 RPI and an 8-7 record vs. Top 50 RPI. In the First Four they were matched up against So. Cal (RPI #73 and 5-6 vs. Top 50). USC shouldn't have been in the First Four either. They shouldn't have been in the tournament. Period.
