Could be wrong but, I don't think Brownell scheduled non-D1. Anyway, we are what we are. Not saying take it or leave it but, at some point you have to quit saying "why aren't we more like A, B, or C university". Maybe it's not fair to say those universities have fans to show up anytime, anywhere, against anyone but, you got to start somewhere and have people in positions to have a similar outlook on whatever you hope to become.
I'm from the D2 days, the difference between divisions don't compare ( and I loved the D2 days ). I'd never go back to the old days. Obviously, some wins are better than others but, I don't stay away because of a team's name or division ( assuming I'll see my team is reason enough to show up ).

I can't tell anyone what they should be happy with. I think most years have been pretty good and overall very happy with the program. GO RAIDERS

I absolutely hate the way the DDN covers the Raiders. The back-handed compliments have been a staple of their reporting for as long as I can remember. This from the article on Nagy getting the most from his players...in the opening paragraph no less:
"Wright State players have endeared themselves to coach Scott Nagy — and not just because they stormed to only the second Horizon League title in program history."
Why not write that like this:
"Wright State players have endeared themselves to coach Scott Nagy — and not just because they stormed to a Horizon League title with the winning-est senior class in program history."
Then...how about a nice little write up on the senior class?
Nope...that on the heals of the 2007 "memory" article of backing into the league title. The focus of the article being a past - and maybe even future - loss to Youngstown State rather than the beating of Butler that year to secure the Conference bid.
Accentuating the negative is the DDN way when covering Wright State...hoops or otherwise. No wonder I canceled that subscription long ago after a nearly 30 year run.

Getting back to the real Crux of this article, I think Nagy has been nearly a Miracle Worker getting this team the #1 speed in the HL Tournament and an automatic bid to the NIT. Granted, the ultimate goal is an NCAA berth and that is still within their reach, but he guided this team without 2 significant contributors from last year( Winchester and Hall) and with 2 subs off the bench who collectively had 0 D1 Scholarship offers. I think this is a remarkable achievement. And I tip my hat to how hard this ENTIRE team has played all year. Our Raiders may not be the most talented team in the HL, but no other team plays harder then they do. I'm proud to be a WSU Alum, thanks to these young men.

Well stated, BBallJones. Approx. 11 months ago I believe many of us had high expectations for this year's team. Then backtrack to early Dec. this season, after a transfer in the offseason and a season ending injury to a key player along with a poor showing in Mexico, I'm not sure many fans realistically thought a top-3 finish was in the cards.
Congrats go to Nagy, the staff, and all the hard work put in by the players.
Not to jump ahead to next season, but I have higher expectations for next year than I did back in late March last year of this season. By my count we have 6 returning players with significant minutes and production. This is most likely for the recruiting thread, but is it possible for someone (Big D) to put up a scholarship chart? In a month from now, and the future, it would be nice to see who's returning and what 'ships are, or will be, opening.

The men’s basketball awards are about to drop and I think this is the first time in a few years where I have no clue who coach of the year will be. My money is in Nagy or kampe. Nagy might not just because we were picked to win anyways although we did go through the injury to jaylon. Kampe did a great job with not a lot of expectations so I’m betting on him. McDonald player of the year obviously, antione freshman of the year, mark on defensive team, not sure if 6th man is a thing but I’d assume that would be bill if it were a thing. Lou is first team with McDonald, Antoine , Cohen, and the guy from IUPUI who transferred from Vanderbilt. Bill is second team with Tate, one of the UIC guards (who knows which one they’re all good), Jaevin Cumberland, and maybe Tyler sharpe
All predictions by the way. Results are about to drop

The team had some adversity. Pre-season we were favorites until Hall got hurt. The Winchester transfer didn’t help things plus Love was hurt earlier in the season. We could have finished a lot lower in the standings after all that on paper. Expectations are even higher next year so I don’t know if COY will be that easy.

Rematch? LOL. That game was in 1999. Our current team either wasn’t born yet or was in diapers when that game was played.

I'm not sure I've ever felt as old as I did reading that sentence LOL I stormed the court from the student section that night - it doesn't feel like THAT long ago!
I've seen us as a #15 matched up against Tennessee in other brackets in a true rematch. Not sure I'm all that interested in that...
