I find it funny that some people wouldnt want us in the tournament after the way the boys have played this year. At the very least it gives positive exposure to a WSU that BADLY needs it. March matters in the HL and thats about it. Losing in the first 4 would hurt but another banner and making the big dance is great no matter how it happens.

I find it funny that some people have no reading comprehension skills. I didn’t say I didn’t want us to go to the tournament. I said I had mixed feelings about it. The positives outweigh the negatives but there are definitely negatives going into the tournament as a barely above 500 record team.

Mid-majors have next to no shot of winning the NCAA tournament so the main benefit to making the dance is the "possibility" of being a Cinderella team that might win a game or 2, the paycheck you earn for being in the dance and most importantly the exposure you gain for your school and your program. That exposure helps you build your fan base and it helps you in future recruiting. The last 2 points is where going to the tournament as a .500 team from the HL can hurt us. The Dayton area is a suave basketball market. Going to the play in game and then being a 16 seed that gets blown out is not going to help us build a fan base of future season ticket holders. It actually just reinforces the notion that Wright State isn't as good as the team across town. It also hurts our recruiting effort against teams we are recruiting against. We mainly recruit against the MAC, MVC, SL, and other HL teams for the most part. Any team we are competing with for a recruit is going to use that against us. They will point out that the conference tournament champs from their conferences get higher seeds in the Dance and we are only play in game worthy. The benefits do out weight the negatives but there are most definitely negatives to going to the tournament as a .500 record team. |

I think this discussion is a waste of time. I haven't seen anything from this team that makes me believe they can win 3 games in a row to win the HL tournament this year.

I would take going to the tourney every year regardless of our record or if we have to play in a play-in game. Do you think we’re going to grow our fan base or entice recruits by being a .500 team that doesn’t go to the tourney? Every year there are 200+ teams that would gladly trade places to be in a play-in game and a 16 seed.

Every year there are 200+ teams that would gladly trade places to be in a play-in game and a 16 seed. Well that leaves 150+ teams that would not gladly be in the play in game. I aspire for us to be one of those 150+ teams that see the play in game as an embarrassment. |

I agree with you but being in the 22nd best conference doesn't afford that. Hopefully things will be different down the road.
