I read recently that Cole Gentry and Bill Wampler were both closing in on 1000 points scored at Wright State. Both of them had scored over 900 points at that time. Does anybody have an update on that? I had meant to keep track of it, but I have not.

Bill Wampler is at 981 points at Wright State. Overall, he has 1389 points in his career counting his 2 seasons at Drake. Cole Gentry is at 968 points at Wright State. Overall, he has 1001 points in his career counting his 1/2 season at SDSU.
FYI, Loudon Love already surpassed the 1000 point mark earlier this season. He is at 1367 points for his career so far.
FYI 2, All 5 of our starters this year are on pace to finish in the 1000 point club at Wright State. If Tanner Holden and Jaylon Hall finish their careers at WSU both are on pace to finish in the 1000 point club as well. Tanner has 368 points on the season. If he maintains that average he will finish with over 1500 points. Jaylon has 536 points in his 2 seasons at Wright State. He's on track to finish with close to 1100 points.

Look at what Love’s point total would be if he were shooting 75% from the free throw line. He has been better as of late. I’m sure his rebounding totals are going to be pretty high as well.
Speaking of stats. I bet our blocked shots per game has been higher this year as well.

Thank you for the information, Big D. I knew about Billy and Cole's numbers at Drake and SDSU, and about Love's total, but I had no idea that Tanner and Jaylon were also on track to score 1000 here (assuming they stay at WSU throughout their eligibility). That's impressive. I don't know, but I'm guessing it's relatively rare for a team to have all five starters become 1000-point scorers.

hhgreen: Just think what Big Lou's point total if he was shooting 60% from the field. He misses more point blank shots than anyone I've ever seen.

On one hand he would be averaging about 6-8 more points a game but on the other hand he would be averaging 3-4 less rebounds a game since he gets the rebound off his missed shots a good percentage of the time lol.

Speaking of stats. I bet our blocked shots per game has been higher this year as well. If you took his current number of attempts and bumped it up to 75%, he'd be averaging about one more point per game.(3.5 vs 4.4). That being said, the opposition would probably hack him around one fewer time per game (a total guess on my and anyone else's part, but just roll with me here) if he wasn't a liability at the stripe, so it could even out. Now, THAT being said, what percentage of those unfouled shots would become makes? There's more of a butterfly effect than more or fewer points from the line. It's not really possible to predict what would happen, but points are points and it'd obviously be better. Well, good news, Raider fans: for the first three months of the season, Lou was making under half of his fts. In the month of February, though, his shot has looked a little more fluid, which has bumped him up to 74%. In addition to that, his attempts have actually increased! Almost 40% of his foul shots have come in the last seven games. What does all of this mean? I don't know, but he's starting to make what's given to him, so that's cool.

Cole Gentry now needs 20 points to reach 1,000 in his career at Wright State. Billy Wampler needs six points.

Cole Gentry scored 5 against UIC in the tournament, so he needs 15 points in the NIT to reach 1,000 points during his Wright State career.
Bill Wampler scored 14, so he stands at 1,008. Congratulations, Billy!

The way Gentry is playing, he's not going to get to 1k points unless we make a deep, deep run in the NIT. I'm glad Bill was able to get there, although I think he was a way safer bet to notch that compared to Cole.

And so it ends.
At least Cole had those 33 points at South Dakota State.
