This is the first time in forever we don’t have a transfer who would be the last bit to put us over the top if they weren’t sitting out. I like what we have, but I wonder how many other HL teams will be getting a missing piece out of this. I have a feeling that mid-major top 25 is going to look way, way different in about two weeks.

Hope Wright State is deep enough to play back to back games...gonna need lots of James Mann to pull this off. If you haven’t figured it out in the last 3 years I just don’t think you are going to get it. James Manns isn’t going to be a main rotational player here. It’s pretty obvious he didn’t do anything in the off-season to earn more playing time in our coaches opinion otherwise he would have played more than mop up minutes in the first 3 games.

It’s pretty obvious he didn’t do anything in the off-season to earn more playing time in our coaches opinion otherwise he would have played more than mop up minutes in the first 3 games. James Manns played 7.8 min/game last year, least of all the scholarship players and mostly in junk time. Here are stats per 40 min. - 23.2 FGA (first on team) - 0.8 AST (last on team) - 29.1 pts (first) - 0.4 stl (last) .449 3pt% ...77% of his shots were threes. The guy has one of the sweetest strokes I’ve seen, but he’s so one dimensional and so lost on D that Nagy’s only played him two minutes each in huge blowouts. How he’s used in these double headers, particularly if we get in foul trouble, is going to be really tricky. As another big body, the immediate transfer eligibility across the league is going to make him desperately needed. Detroit just got ridiculously deep down low. Manns can draw them out to the perimeter, but he’s got to do some other stuff, too. The way this conference shakes down could be resting significantly on this guy’s shoulders.

The problem with all of that is that all the evidence to date tells us that Manns is seeing all the time he is going to see this year. 1. In multiple preseason articles Nagy talked about Wright State playing a slower pace this year. That was code for we aren’t deep enough to run and gun like we did last year. Nagy only has 7 guys he trusts to play major minutes so far this year. If he trusted Manns and Harris to contribute like experienced players there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to play more uptempo like last year. He doesn’t trust either guy and that is why neither is playing much. 2. We have played 3 games this year and 2 were pretty big blow out wins. If Manns couldn’t get on the court for more than just mop up minutes in those games, I see no reason why anyone should except to see him more in conference games where every game matters. Manns is a 4th year junior. It’s just sad that he hasn’t figured out what he needs to do to get on the court more.

I think the fatigue factor in playing back to back games is being overblown a bit here. I'd agree with the sentiment if we were playing a Thurs. Sat. and Sun. schedule. There's no reason the players should be fatigued playing two days in a row with a week off in between.
