Bob Grant needs to get his butt in gear and hire our next coach. The late signing period already started. If he wants to give our next coach a chance to fill out our roster and compete next year he needs to get a move on.

It's been 3 weeks. If we were staying in house and promoting one of our assistants you would think it would have been announced a week or 2 ago.

We are now 4 weeks without a coach and we just lost our 4th player to the portal. Bob Grant needs to get off his ass and start going his job and hire a coach.

I bet he’s just twiddling his thumbs. 🙄 I’m gonna go out on a very unpopular limb from this board and say there’s more of a struggle getting coaches and recruits right now because of the fact the university is shrinking. This was a solid gig to walk into a couple of years ago, but anyone looking beyond one year at the downward trends wouldn’t exactly be eager to jump on board. Even if things somehow expand, it sure as hell doesn’t look like that to someone looking to stay in D1.

Even if things somehow expand, it sure as hell doesn’t look like that to someone looking to stay in D1. If that is true and I don't believe that it is, then the easy and smart thing to do is to promote one of our assistant coaches and stay with the status quo. I'm pretty sure any of them that truly know what is going on at Wright State and with our athletic department would jump at the chance to become a head coach knowing that our athletic depart is here to stay for the long hull. If worse came to worse as you keep speculating about and we do end up dropping out of D1, then we are still giving them the chance to prove themselves as a D1 head coach for however long that is and improve their resume for their next gig.

I agree. I think we have at least 2 qualified assistants that could have taken over the program and kept things moving in the right direction. Even if we promote one now, we took away a month of their ability to recruit and lost 4 of their players to transfer by not acting more quickly. If this was the men's team and we were still without a coach a month after Nagy left, you all know everyone would be losing their shit by now calling for Grant's head on a platter.

Yeah, you guys are right. He clearly hasn’t made an attempt and almost certainly hasn’t discussed it with any of the assistants.
My bad.

Yeah, you guys are right. He clearly hasn’t made an attempt and almost certainly hasn’t discussed it with any of the assistants. My bad. It really doesn’t matter if he has TRIED to hire a great coach away from another school or if he has talked to our assistants about taking over next year. College coaches and ADs are judged by what they achieve, not what they try to do. Bob Grant should know this better than anyone since he fired a pretty success coach in Donlon because he wasn’t living up to expectations set for him. Grant is going to be judged on the success of the next coach he hires. The longer he waits to hire them the harder it is going to be for that coach to have success next year. And there is nothing wrong with fans having expectations of him being able to hire a coach in under a month. I read an article a few weeks back about all the coaching changes that happen each year. The average time it takes to replace a head coach is less than 2 weeks. The article was about men’s basketball but I think the same probably applies to women’s coaches too. Here’s hoping that Bob finds a great new coach in the near future.

I would like to apologize to Bob Grant for blaming him for Wright State still having our open women's basketball position. It is 100% the fault of some lazy ass HR employee who should lose their job for being incompetent. We all know Wright State is a state school. By Ohio law, all state schools have to post all open jobs on their website. Once a job is posted it is open for internal candidates only for the first 5 days and then anyone can apply for the job after that. So Bob Grant is not allowed to interview our current assistant coaches until that original job posting is made and outside coaches until 5 days later. As I previous stated, some moron in HR didn't get around to posting our open women's head coach position until TODAY. Bob Grant did not waste the last month. Some (hopefully soon to be fired) moron in HR wasted the last month. Here is the job listing that was posted today: jobs.wright.edu/postings/15985

The job has been open for more than 26 days now. Is there a state law that says you have to wait so many days to post a state job opening? Could the job have been posted say the day after coach Merriweather left?

People in HR aren't union employees are they? Wonder if someone deliberately slow rolled the opening out of spite.

Unpopular opinion; I'm sure they have been talking to assistant coaches regardless of requirements. Maybe the assistant coaches are unsure/want to go to Memphis too. We don't know the internal situation. To think that a business wouldn't have a simple conversation with internal candidates regardless of said requirement, to see if they are interested in the job...
Let's take a step back and let BG work/trust him. He has made some great hires recently. There is probably more than we know.
