How does everyone feel about the shortened rotation? We have established an 8 man rotation (or 7.5 depending on how you count Manns) when everyone is healthy. Not necessarily a short rotation, but shorter than the past couple of years.
I am all for keeping our best guys on the floor for as many minutes as they can handle, especially when the drop-off from 8 to 9 is so large. My main worry is foul trouble or injuries in future games. Will we need Harris to step up late in the season?
I would also like Manns to get a few more minutes, but its so hard to take Basille or Love out of the game when they are playing so well. I think playing our key guys high minutes now will help them play tired when it matters at the end of the year.
The fact that we have 8 players who could realistically start on most teams we play is a definite strength!

I remember reading (early on) comments by Nagy that this was one of the deepest teams he's ever had. That hasn't played out just yet.
I chuckled when you suggested 7.5 with Manns. I'd still like to see Manns get some major minutes in mop-up duty to see if the light bulb comes on - with all due respect to Big D's comments on the guy and why he doesn't get extended run.
Alex has looked really good...and, of course, Basile.
Harris might be the X factor. I imagine we will need him at some times this year. I hope he gets there defensively because we will likely need him.
I worry about a backup PG...a lot.

I've also wondered about that comment from Nagy.
Is it the deepest team as far as quality (e.g. 7-man rotation) or deepest team (e.g. entire roster)? If it's the latter, it sure doesn't show based on his heavy 7-man rotation, which does seem smaller than most years. I think I remember Nagy saying in the past that he likes to play 8- or 9-man rotations.

My thought:
Nagy has said this is his deepest team and I feel that that is true. He especially feels that way about the team's defense. We lost a starter (Finke) due to injury and Hall for most of the game due to foul trouble in Saturday's game, with very little drop off on either end of the court with the subs.
The point guard position doesn't worry me because we have so many guys that can handle the ball and bring it up court, and once up court we run motion, and all of the players seem to be high IQ players that move the ball well. We do not need a point guard to get us into our offense, and it's not about a point guard driving and dishing like in some of the dribble drive offenses we see nowadays. I don't see our point guards as being guys that will get high assist numbers nightly because of that. The assists will be spread out. The key is that the guards don't turn the ball over.
Nagy also has said because of his depth, that matchups will determine who plays most nights. I am guessing that those matchup changes would be for defenses purposes because that is what he favors. But if we are having trouble scoring, Nagy has guys that can come off the bench and provide q quick spark too. So there may be a matchup where some of the non-starters are better suited for the game or can change the flow of a game.
Hopefully like Saturday in the first of the weekend games, we can continue to get a big lead and rest some of the starters for the next day, and our depth can keep us from having a big drop off in production, thus giving the other team momentum heading into the 2nd game of the series.
The nice thing is that we have a lot of pieces to play with, and until it doesn't work I will not complain who is playing and who is not. Nagy definitely preaches defense first and and second foremost lol, so if you are not doing your job on defense, you will not get many minutes that is for sure, but we only have 10 scholarship players available at the moment, and one of those was suppose to red-shirt had the NCAA not given the free year. So an 8 man rotation sounds about right, with others getting mop up duty or more if we get some blowouts. Right now since we had no preseason I can see the coach is also working on stamina so some players might be getting a little more time here early unlike in past seasons because of the shortened non-conference and pre-season practice time.
