Wouldn't CSU play YSU if they beat Oakland (assuming WSU and CSU both win)? YSU would be the lowest remaining seed.

I don't think YSU has a chance in the world against CSU, and would certainly prefer to play the winner of the Detroit NKU game in the championship and not in the semis.

HLMM Quarterfinal Preview - Day One:
(5) DET at (4) NKU: There's no denying the incredible run that Detroit has been on since their COVID pause. The Titans have won 3 straight and 11 of 13 games since their return to regular season play.
Interestingly enough, these two teams did not play each other in regular season play this season. Detroit has dropped 5 straight games at NKU after winning their first ever match-up in the 15-16 season.
Antoine Davis is coming off a season high 46 points including 10 3-pointers in their opening round defeat of RMU up at Calihan. Of course, NKU had a bye into the quarters, but will look to rebound off of a senior night loss to WSU.
NKU hasn't matched up against anyone with the scoring potential of Antoine Davis yet this year, so it will be interesting to see how NKU plans to combat Davis. Too much focus on Davis may lead to open opportunities by HLMBB 3rd team member Bul Koul or newfound deep threat Noah Waterman who hit a trio of clutch 3s in Detroit's upset of Cleveland State two weeks ago.
Antoine Davis arguably had the best season in the Horizon League, even though he didn't win Player of the Year. He's on a warpath, and NKU will be the next victim. 25 points might not be enough, but another 45 point night probably is. Detroit will have to find secondary options for points, and if they do, NKU could be in for a very long evening. Neither team plays particularly spectacular defense, so you could certainly see this game get into the 80s, and if it does, that favors the Titans. NKU has played into the 70s and even into the 80s this year and has found ways to get beat in many of those games.
I've got Detroit 82-67.

HLMM Quarterfinal Preview - Day Two:
(6) YSU at (3) OAK: There's nobody on this planet arguing that Oakland deserved the three seed. Thanks to the "magic formula" Oakland is highly overseeded in my mind. This actually is great for WSU, but let's focus on their match-up against the Penguins on the Blacktop at O'rena.
The two teams met in mid-January in Rochester, with Oakland taking both wins, by a respectable 17 and 7. What makes this series interesting is that YSU has some decent defenders, but not across the entire team; mix that with Oakland's balanced scoring attack; it's a match-up issue for the Penguins. Oakland have 4 players in double figures in both games, led by stud point guard Jalen Moore who dropped 31 and 18.
Oakland should be healthy, and well rested for this match-up, and again will welcome YSU into the O'Rena. The Raiders should be pulling hard for the Griz as it would guarantee that we avoid Detroit and NKU until the championship game. I think Oakland has too many guys who can impact the game on the offensive end and if Jalen Moore is blanketed, Rashah Williams or Dan Oladapo will likely be hot.
YSU has four guys averaging double figures led by Naz Bohannon at around 17ppg, but Oakland had him in foul trouble in both games. The last part of this game that could make or break is YSU's perimeter shooting. In their two prior games, YSU went 7-29 and 7-31 from deep. If YSU can hit a more average number of their deep shots, you could certainly see a different outcome, but I think that speaks more to Oakland's defense than to YSU's shooting selection.
I've got Oakland winning comfortably 82-70.

double-OT. A back and forth affair seemed to finally tilt the way of the Mastodons after a buzzer beating banked three pointer forced a second OT which the Mastodons would ultimately control. The question for me is what will it take for IPFW to upset CSU at the Wolstein Center; and the short answer is an awful lot.
CSU has been very tough at home, dropping only an OT game to Detroit, and a furious come-from-behind win by the Milwaukee Panther a short four weeks ago. CSU has had their fair share of struggles on both sides of the ball (we all remember OU's 40-0 run against them in non-conference play), but CSU also draws its fair share of whistles on the defensive end. IPFW will have to have a phenomenal night of knocking down big shots, or getting to the free throw line to really have a chance. Of their main starters, only two starters shoot better than 40% from 3, and only two shoot better than 50% from the field.
Cleveland State wins this game pretty handily if they play smart, in control basketball. IPFW simply doesn't have the diverse range of scoring options that CSU has or the athleticism on the inside to make higher percentage shots. IPFW will have to have a near-perfect night of basketball to overcome an overall disparity in talent and ability. Don't forget the loud, supportive, obnoxious, and borderline unsportsmanlikee CSU bench, which will add to the IPFW frustration levels as another X Factor in this one.
I'll go with CSU 76, IPFW 60.

I mean...analyzing college basketball for the world’s preeminent collegiate sports platform is kinda their full time job. I’d call them experts over pretty much everyone else.

This is really the only conference I follow. I could easily see Detroit winning this tournament. Detroit has really come together and they have a player who some would say was slighted for conference POY.
As a Wright State fan I am glad they likely are on the other side of the bracket because I wouldn't want them in a semifinal matchup.
My Horizon League rankings for the conference tournament entering the quarterfinals:
1)Wright State (2 seed)
2)Detroit (5 seed)
3)Cleveland State (1 seed)
4)Northern Kentucky (4 seed)
NKU and Detroit matching up should be a great game. Hoping IPFW stuns Cleveland State to ensure the Detroit/NKU winner stays on the other side of the bracket.
Tomorrow I will be watching all 4 games with greater interest than normal.
