I agree on the scheduling but we are a quality MM program. The Power 5 wants buy games they know they can win. We beat Georgia Tech a couple years ago and pushed Mississippi State as well. On the season ticket holder Q&A before the season, BG said we were supposed to play Virginia Tech this year and they pulled out of the game. Believe there was either a game or at least a discussion with Maryland as well. I think a more realistic hope is to go after quality MM games - which we have been doing. Games with programs like Murray State, Belmont, Western Kentucky, etc. Also this was supposed to be the first year of the Summit/Horizon scheduling agreement, which pairs matchups between the 2 leagues. These matchups will be based on the strength of the teams. Hopefully that resumes next season and we can get a game with someone like South Dakota State, North Dakota State, etc. I believe BG's words on the Va Tech game was that "VaTech said to call them back when Loudon Love graduated". Now that he's likely going on to bigger and better things, that "on the surface" scare factory might be gone which would allow us a buy game or two.

I don't know if it is a forgone conclusion that Lou is moving on. If you asked me that a week ago I would have said yes, he is going to head to Europe next year. With the way this season ended I think he might come back. I don't think he had his mind made up yet before that game and I really don't think he wants to end his college career like that. He has a chance to come back and become WSU's all time leader in scoring to go with his all time rebounding record. He could be a 3 time HL MVP and the only Raider to play in 2 NCAA tournaments. I really think he is on the fence about it. I cannot imaging Wright State would not have done something to honor him at our last home game for a senior night if they knew he was moving on. Even now, if we knew he was leaving, our athletic department would be putting out some kind of social media posts congratulating him on his career here. I don't know how much of a chance we have of him coming back next year but I do think we have a chance.

In response to those who think our team needs more mental toughness, we need not look too far. Brian Arlinghaus - the coach of the golf team works a lot in this area, and his teams have done great for those who follow the golf program.

I'm all for playing a road warrior OOC schedule to toughen up the boys and get them ready for HL and tournament play. With the state of the universities finances, the extra paychecks could come in handy to cover more of our costs.

Priority 1,2,3 is to find a way to achieve DI threshhold for sports without relying on an NCAA waiver AND without diluting the competitiveness of the other sports: a big credit goes to BG for hires that have led to the other sports repeatedly competing and beating power conference schools the last several years. As part of that, and to help cultivate donors, I wish there were more done to promote our other programs that are getting national recognition. I realized men's basketball brings in the revenue, but we need our other programs to remain regionally and nationally relevent to have a chance to eventually get into a better conference
I'm hopeful for this special panel and I think it's partly to head off union led efforts to further target the athletics program amid retrenchment and projected enrollment declines.
In terms of Coach Nagy, and lots of others have said it, but it would be great to see an impact transfer come in. Personally, Id love to see 1 or 2 local scholarship kids on the roster. even 1 or 2 local kids does a lot for PR and local connections.

We still have the NCAA waiver to remain below the D1 threshold for sports through the 2021/22 year so I don't think we will be adding back any sports next year. I think that decision will strictly be a cost saving measure. I do hope we get an announcement this summer about which sports we will be adding and hire some coaches so that they can spend some time recruiting to be ready for the 2022/23 season. In regards to local recruiting, we are recruiting JUCO Ryan Hall for next year. He is a Kettering Fairmont grad and I believe he will have 4 years of eligibility if he comes to Wright State. Amari Davis is a name being brought up but I doubt he ends up at Wright State. I think he is going to try to find a P5 home.

It has already been said, but I've had a little time to digest. We need a guard who wants the ball at the end of the game. A Duggins, Brown, Wood, or even Cole Gentry. Yes, everyone knew they were getting the ball in crunch time, but they thrived on that. While we have a lot of good, really good, kids on this team, we don't have that go to guard who can make it happen. I say guard because we have Love but he is like Matt Howard was. GREAT players, but they rely on the rest of the players to get the ball. We need to find that one kid who fits Nagy's style of defense but can create his own shot on the offensive end.

I'm not sure if this is the best thread for this post but I hope our coaching staff can learn to adapt fast to the new NCAA transfer rule. We all know Coach Nagy will bring in a transfer or grad transfer to his program but by far he prefers to recruit players he sees as 4-5 year players in his system. I think he would prefer to redshirt every player so he has 5th year seniors on the court as our leaders. It seems like those days are numbered in college basketball. Kids are using mid-majors as spring boards to have a good season or 2 then transfer to power 5 programs. I don't want Wright State to become a feeder program for power 5 schools. I hope our staff figures out how to navigate the new world order of recruiting. I think I can speak for us all when I say we want Wright State to be a destination program and not a stepping stone program.

I think Jaylon is just the first of 2-3 guys that are probably going to leave the program. I think you hit the nail on the head. Our future success relies on how well our coaches adapt to the changing recruiting landscape. The market for D1 transfers is going to be super competitive this year. The big schools that used to use top JUCOs to fill their roster openings are looking at the those immediate eligible transfers. It opens up the market for those JUCOs. It also opens up the market on better high school players. If our coaches do a good job with recruiting we can end up with a much deeper roster next year. If they don't adapt well, we can be looking at a long hard season next year.

College basketball is going to look very different very soon. Had to look up the rule changes to ensure I fully understood it & I found, "Fall and winter sport athletes would have to notify their schools of a transfer by May 1, with an exception extending the date to July 1 for an end-of-the-year head coaching change or the non-renewal of scholarships." www.si.com/college/2020/10/13/ncaa-proposal-transfer-immediate-eligibilityLooks like we will know all the transfers by May 1.

Man, we are really going to have some unbalanced classes next year if we don't bring in some upperclassmen transfers or JUCO recruits. With 3 open scholarships now, this is what our roster looks like if no one else leaves:
Seniors: Lou Love (if he decides to come back)
Juniors: James Manns
Sophomores: Tim Finke Trey Calvin Tanner Holden Grant Basile
Freshmen: Alex Huibregtse Andrew Welage Brandon Noel AJ Braun Keaton Norris

Seniors:Lou Love (if he decides to come back) Juniors:James Manns Sophomores:Tim Finke Trey Calvin Tanner Holden Grant Basile Freshmen:Alex Huibregtse Andrew Welage Brandon Noel AJ Braun Keaton Norris A few things really pop in my mind when I look at that roster. 1. There is just a ton of talent on this roster (even if Lou decides to graduate) 2. We have really good size in the post and wings. 3. We really need to add a couple of playmakers with our remaining scholarships. Finke, Holden, and Calvin are the only returning guys that can create their own shot out of our returning guys, but I wouldn't say any of them are elite level at doing that. Norris looks like a guy that can do that based on his film but he has to make that transition to the college game. To get to that next level where we can win a game or 2 in the tournament, we need 1-2 guys that can penetrate and finish at the rim and/or create a shot for a teammate. We really need to add a DaShaun Wood/Cole Gentry type experienced PG in the late signing period.

Man up and admit it to him that they underrecruited him and convince him that he can be the hometown hero that can put Wright State on the map next year. It's not too late.

Looking forward to some positive news on Raider signings. Athletes are committing to area programs but not yet WSU. Somehow we need to be more competitive in our recruiting. Seriously, I would consider it a miracle for Wright State to land a 4 star recruit, let alone four in one class. Opti No HL school is landing multiple 4 star recruits. That is who we are currently recruiting against. It is unrealistic to expect our coaches to be out recruiting other local schools that are in top 10 conferences that send multiple teams to the dance every year. It just isn’t going to happen while we are in the HL and honestly it isn’t going to happen while Nagy is our coach. He just doesn’t care about recruiting services ratings and he is never going to kiss some 4 star kids ass that has a big ego to get him to come here the way most college recruiters do. He cares about how a kid is going to fit into his locker room and his system. That is the main reason I don’t see Nagy as a good fit at most power 5 programs. He would rather send a talented guy with a big ego like Alstork packing than deal with his bs. I just don’t see that changing while he is here.
