With the addition of CJ Wilbourn, I see us with 12 scholarship players and two walk-ons.
Here is the list I see as Post vs Outside shooters: Big Men: Grant Basile Brandon Noel CJ Wilbourn AJ Braun Andy Neff
Outside: Tanner Holden Tim Finke Trey Calvin James Manns Alex Huibregtse Andrew Welage Riley Voss Keaton Norris TJ Nagy
I am not counting on Loudon coming back. We know the starting four of Grant, Calvin, Holden, and Finke. The fifth spot is up for grabs. With the addition of the two transfers, Noel, and Braun, we may be able to play two big again.
Do we still have one open scholarship left? Does anyone have any thoughts on the fifth starting spot?
I hope we can get more than 7 players playing on a rotation basis. I am excited for the next season and get back into the Nutter Center. RaiderUp!!!

I believe Andy Neff graduated, so I wouldn't expect him to be back.
Based on the playing time last season, I would think Huibregtse is the most likely to get the 5th starting spot. With 5 newcomers, it's really hard to say. I think Basile and Wilbourn could get significant minutes on the court together. I could be (and hope I am) wrong, but I just don't see the freshmen big men getting significant minutes.

Who knows with the COVID year. I heard that Nagy was really impressed with Noel’s fundamentals before he got hurt. So he may get some playing time.

We still have 1 scholarship to use for next year currently. My guess is we use it on a guard or save it for next year if we don't land a guard that we want. I really and I mean REALLY think we need to add an impact guard that can create his own shot that can contribute next year.
I don't know if Coach Nagy will play 3 guards/2 bigs or go back to 4 guards and 1 big. I don't know if Nagy will go 7 deep or give more guys a chance and play 8-9 guys. Our success all depends on how quickly the new guys pick up our system and how much growth we get from our younger players that didn't play much last year.
There are a few HL teams that made big moves in the late signing period adding some impressive transfers and/or HS commitments. If they gel quickly as a team, they can be really competitive next year in the HL. I don't know if we are going to make a step forward or backwards next season based on who we just lost and who we are adding.

Well the school is updating the roster on the sports webpage for 2021-2022 and Loudon is still listed. So who knows what is going on.
Another item of note, appears Grant is changing his number to 00 next season.

My gut says Lou is coming back…he is not going over seas and is dipping is toes into the water for evaluation for the NBA over the next few weeks…he will get feedback to come back to get work in, work on his perimeter game/jumper (check out his Instagram post) and will be back in the Nutt House…. I would selfishly love to see Lou back but for his sake I hope he is able to find something professional and move on. If he comes back after all the work you've described...that would be amazing.

I would be thrilled to have Love back for another year. That said, i feel great with the lineup even without him, Grant Basile was amazing last year and I feel like he'll be in even better shape this year. If Love comes back, he'll probably do so in order to work on areas that will help him improve his look for pro leagues. Wouldn't be surprised if we get different kinds of looks from him this year. I don't think we added any crazy award winning talent to our team for next year, but we really didn't need to, Nagy accomplished in fixing our depth issue and help stabilized his system that continues to work well for our program.

Well the school is updating the roster on the sports webpage for 2021-2022 and Loudon is still listed. So who knows what is going on. I think you are reading too much into this. Lou has not announced his final decision to the public yet. Wright State left him on the website so that he can make the announcement when he wants. If he was coming back, Wright State wouldn't just include his name on the website and call it a day. I can guarantee you that Wright State would blast that information to every media outlet they could.

If you check out his Instagram post those videos aren’t videos taken by a friend watching him scrimmage other guys. They are well edited videos done by a professional. You don’t pay someone to do that just to post on Instagram. Those are videos you put together to send out to pro scouts or agents. I would love to see Lou suit up for Wright State next year just as much as anyone but I’m not getting my hopes up.

I don't know if we are going to make a step forward or backwards next season based on who we just lost and who we are adding. I'm trying to gain some understanding of what you are saying there. I am pretty excited about what we've done this off-season (with one qualifier I'll hit at the end here). FWIW: I am not saying that you are not also excited about the additions. We lost Hall and Harris. I am ecstatic knowing I no longer have to watch Hall make decisions on the floor. I don't care how unpopular this might be but in my opinion we were and are a better team without him on the floor. Harris never saw the floor in any meaningful way. To me, our loss is actually a +. We gained two HS recruits who look like they have the traits (athletic big) and skills (point guard) that we need. I would think that AJ will have a tough time getting on the floor if Love comes back. Even without Love...Basile, Noel (who has been in the program for a year), AJ & Wilborn (who has played two years at UWM) as "bigs" and/with our size at the (traditional) 2-4 is impressive. Norris is a true point guard but and comes from a smaller HS program. I'll be curious to see if he emerges as the first backup to Calvin (assuming we don't land another point.) Holden (my favorite player), Finke and Huibregtse return from last year's (7) man rotation. Voss has experience and great size. I'll be interested to see what Welage looks like this fall. (I'm not considering Manns here because I just don't get it...and I don't see what is stated as reasons for his bench-home.) Calvin gets his own paragraph because he's kind of alone at the point guard spot. If Norris doesn't emerge and we don't land another point guard, we could be in trouble here this year....AGAIN. As you and others have opined, we need (still need) a guard who can get off his own shots and create havoc getting to the basket. Is Welage an option at the point? I think the net/net of losses/gains is very favorable for us this year. Whether that's enough to stay at the top of the HL is the question - and may be the point of your quote from above.

We didn't just lose Hall and Harris. We are 99% going to lose Lou. He hasn't made it official yet but ALL indications are that he is going pro. Honest to god, I hope he announces today that he is coming back so I can eat some crow but I just don't see that happening. Harris did not contribute anything last year and I agree is not a huge loss but losing Lou and Hall and replacing them with Wilbourn, Voss, Braun, and Norris is not going to be an upgrade next year IMO. I have my doubts that Braun or Norris play next year. We all know Nagy prefers to red-shirt freshmen when he can and my guess is both red-shirt unless they show up on campus and just blow our staff away. Voss didn't get to play last year since Cornell opted out so I have concerns about him being rusty. Wilbourn is coming off a foot injury. Both are going to be new to our system but are going to be expected to step in and contribute at a high level from day one. I honestly really like all 4 players for how I think they fit our system but I do not see how they step in and replace the production we got from Hall and Lou. Hell, losing Lou completely changes how everyone else on the team plays. Go back and re-watch any game from this past season when Lou was on the bench for extended periods of time. One consistent thing I think you will notice is we tended to struggled without him. Offensively, he demanded a double team most of the time which meant we always had someone else open. He was also just a monster on the boards, not just in his personal rebounding numbers but in the fact that he occupied 2-3 guys in the paint every time he went for a rebound. That often led to a teammate getting a rebound. Every team we faced set their game plan for Lou. Grant and Tanner got the benefit of not being the center of attention. This year every team is going to set their game plans to stopping those 2. I have no idea how they will respond to that. I have no idea what type of system we will run next year. Are we going to go 2 bigs/3 guards or 1 big/4 guards. Are we going to go 7 deep again next year or will Nagy trust his bench more to go 8-9 deep. What kind of an impact will losing our 2 most experienced assistant coaches have on our player development and scouting/game planning for next year. We still have 1 scholarship to fill. We have 1 coaching spot to fill. We have a ton of unknowns going into next season. I like our returning players. I like our incoming players. (I still hope we can land an impact guard). I like our coaching staff that has been assembled so far. (I hope we can add a vet coach for our bench). I really am excited about next year but I'm not willing to say we will be better than this year because there are just way too many unknowns right now.

I really am excited about next year but I'm not willing to say we will be better than this year because there are just way too many unknowns right now. Nice breakdown in your reply. I was/have convinced myself that Love will move on and I was not even thinking about the coaching changes - which I should consider. On paper, I think we have a much better and deeper group of basketball players than we did last year with the exception of Love moving on. How they become a team with many new pieces, no Love and a couple of new coaches is certainly a giant glob of unknowns. I thought there were times last year when we relied too heavily on Love...which is understandable due to his dominance. But that "focus" was problem #2 after regularly playing only (7) guys in a game. I hope we don't get into that situation again this fall - both of those situations if Love decides to return. I think Basile will make us feel better about losing Love. I think he is actually a better basketball player - but not the dominate force that Love could bring. Note: We WILL greatly miss Love if he moves on and he absolutely does many things that will be impossible to replace. It seemed to me that Love was so dominant that the lane didn't have enough room for another offensive player. If he leaves, not only do we lose a great player, but we have to re-vamp the offense and defense to deal without him being around - just to add another unknown on the pile. Last year we had Love and Basile as our bigs...and with both of them starting, we had no backups. So when one of them had to rest, we had to rely on essentially (4) guards. This year we'll have Basile, Noel, Wilborn and Braun (maybe not Braun). Our big play won't be as good in 2021, but it will be deeper. Holden isn't a big, but he's a very effective inside player when he needs to be. I like all the returning starters and I think Hubrigste will be a very good player for us. We need Welage to develop and he and Voss to contribute or we will be looking at last year all over again. I don't want to beat the dead horse about the point guard play, but it's an issue. If Norris can play and Calvin improves we may be ok. I'll quit repeating myself now. Question: What is "the" opinion of Welage? What is his best position? It's obvious he needs to gain some bulk. I'd ask the same question of Voss, but not sure how we'd know just yet.

I really liked Welage when I saw him play in high school. He is just a really well rounded player in that he handles the ball, shoots, passes, and rebounds well. In high school he played the 1-3. In our system he is a 2-3 if we are playing 2 bigs and even the 4 if we are going 4 guards and he bulks up some more. As long as he puts the work in the weight room this offseason I think he will see the court next year and we will see some really nice flashes from him. I think he has a chance to be a standout player in 2 years if he keeps working in the weight room. Voss is a 3 in our system if we are going with 2 bigs and a 4 guard if we are only going with 1 big. His game is a lot like Tim Finke in that he does all the little things that help you win. As long as he isn't too rusty I expect him to earn a lot of playing time.
