UIC is 9-16 and the RPI is 212. The Flames are usually pretty good, so this year is abnormal. Hopefully, our #RaiderGang will give them a spanking as a going away present. Wright State is 14-16 with an RPI of 117.

As several fans have mentioned the pitching has been a real problem this year. So, I decided to take a look at the stats to see how bad it actually is, and the answer is really bad.

This year's team ERA is a whopping 7.24 and Wright State's opponents have an ERA of 6.39. Last year's team that led the Div I in batting average had a team ERA of 4.41 and opponents had an ERA of 9.90. The 2021 Wright State ERA of 4.41 ranked the team in the 60s of Div I teams. Top teams this season have ERAs between 2.07 and 3.89.


So, the team batting is down from last year, but still respectable. This team's offense just can't overcome the pitching woes, which is no surprise to fans of our #RaiderGang. This team will continue to take its lumps this year and hopefully come back stronger next year.

University of Dayton has a 14-17 record with a 159 RPI. They are definitely a threat to end their almost 20-game losing streak to Wright State.

#RaiderGang sits at 140 in the RPI with a 15-18 record. If it makes you feel better, Purdue has an RPI of 140 with a 22-9 record because of their weak schedule.

It has been well hashed out the pitching deficiencies of our #RaiderGrang. But let's look at the pitching of a really good team---the Number 1 team.....our old friend Tennessee. We took two out of three from them in 2020 and then last year in the NCAA Regional leading 8-5 in the bottom of the 9th the Raiders lost on a walk off grand slam despite hitting five home runs.

This year's Volunteer season has been like a months-long no-hitter, with the Big Orange plowing through their opponents picking up win after win to push their record to 37-3. The team has outscored their opponents 376-96 despite a top-40 strength of schedule. They lead the nation in three major categories — ERA (2.02), strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.99) and slugging percentage (.616).

Weaknesses? Not really. The Vols are sixth in scoring (9.4 runs/game) and 12th in fielding percentage (.979). The worst ERA from the 13 pitchers they use with any regularity is 3.86. Again, the Raiders ERA is 6.93.

As impressive as the overall record is, an SEC mark of 17-1 represents the best-ever start by anyone in the conference’s recent history. They are five games ahead of the next team in a conference that could send 8 or 9 teams to the NCAA Regionals.

So, that is what teams like our #RaiderGang that want to make it to Omaha are up against. Those SEC programs are tough to compete against, but if the Raiders can continue to improve their recruiting then competing with the Big Boys is possible. A hot streak in a good year can get the Raiders to Omaha, winning in Omaha is a big hill to climb, but I say, let's give it a try.
