Nice bounce back from last night. Noel is going to be such a force for us, it’s crazy he hasn’t played in 2 years coming back from injury. It’s so encouraging to see a 2-1 MTE vs. 0-3 last year.

Assuming we can keep him in the program and away from the power conferences he has so much potential in the years to come if he keeps developing. I really like how we are performing against a more challenging schedule this year. Bodes well for our Horizon league campaign this year.

they just said on the radio they are flying into Indy and then a bus to Fairborn. Should be back at Nutter around 330am Southwest 1284 seems to be the answer then. I'm curious how these small MTEs function. Flying commerical and not out of our any of the 3 airports within an hour of campus is a head scratcher. Basically no fans in attendance, no commercials on TV. The only revenue stream I can see is the embarrasingly paltry tickets they sold, commemorative swag, and food sales. There was no advertising on the court or at the arena that I could spot. How is the promotor making money on this? Having to pay a staff to run the event, officials, A/V, tech. Who organized the travel? Every time we travel by air, it seems like it is always a direct charter. How do we end up flying 3 hours and then bussing another 3? I am glad the team is able to be home for Thanksgiving though. As a finance guy, the numbers just don't add up, and as an aviation junkie, the logisitics are quite unfavorable.

wsuraider09:
I wonder about the same things you posted. No fans, no TV revenue, where is the revenue to support an event like this. The only answer I have is that this venue is new and that this event is is a loss leader to somehow build exposure for this arena.

Regarding these small MTEs, BD Global Sports holds quite a few of these, so they are making money one way or another. They are getting some revenue from streaming and they get by with minimizing expenses. Last year the Naples Invitational got some criticism by posting an ad for an unpaid broadcast intern. After getting pushback, they said that the actual broadcasters are paid and the intern would be helping the paid broadcasters. (source: awfulannouncing.com/ncaa/naples-invitational-unpaid-analyst-internship-12-games-three-days.html ) I seem to remember some article mentioning WSU paid $30,000 to participate in one of the recent MTEs (I believe the Naples Invitational last year or Gulf Coast Showcase 3 years ago). I'm guessing that was for the travel, hotel, etc.

Since Wright State has hosted a couple of these I would think someone would have the answer on if/how they make any money. Since we haven't hosted any since, my assumption is they aren't much of a money maker.

I went to the first two games of the Vegas 4 and the vast majority of the fans there were Raider fans. I think I counted 4 fans for Abeliene Christian and a dozen or so for UC Riverside. There were probably 80 to 100 WSU fans there. Yes there were no real sponsors that were apparent there in the arena and the event was not promoted in Vegas. Not sure of the finances either, seems like either the schools ponied up to play or the organizer lost money. Raiders played great, the big difference in the UCR game were the big guards for UCR - they were also quick enough to guard Calvin and Davis, but the other players stepped up nicely.

Are you out in the AZ area? Was curious how many people traveled out there vs people in the area.

I traveled out to the Vegas Tournament. There were several Raider fans that traveled out to Vegas. It was a good time. Hoping for another fun tournament location next season.

I also traveled out to the tournament, BG said that some of the people lived in the LV area but I recognized quite a few from the Dayton area.
