Can't help but notice the first 11 games and 14 of the first 15 are true road games. Granted its too cold in Feb to play at home, but this still makes it very tough to have a respectable record early. Aren't there any 4 team tournaments in the south where only one game of a weekend series would be a true road game, and the other two neutral site games? Also, we can't seem to get anyone to come here except for a home and home (Toledo, OSU, Miami). The only non-conference home game without a return is Akron. Lastly, those mid-week games against OSU, Pitt, and UK are even harder to win because we (and they) will be using our #4 or #5 pitcher. We all know the Power 5 will typically have a deeper starting staff, or could go with an opener and bullpen by committee. We will have a better chance to win one in the early 3 game series where our 1 thru 3 go against their 1-3. Plus early in the season some teams may not yet know who their best 3 starters are. It’s extremely hard to get anyone to schedule you when you are in a horrible conference and you have a reputation of knocking off ranked teams every year.

Understand and agree. I would think teams might be more interested just knowing that our RPI (or NET, whatever baseball uses) will likely be respectable, and so if they do get upset by Raidergang it won't hurt them. I would also assume that as the Power 5 conferences have grown to 16+ teams, they have increased the number of league games (as they did in basketball), so that leaves fewer non-conf games to fight for on their schedules.

Cincinnati Reds MLB Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench made an appearance in Bowling Green last night at Diddle Arena to help raise money for the WKU Hilltopper baseball team. I wonder if RaiderGang could get JB to come to WSU to do a fundraiser next year. I think he would be a big draw. WSU is a better baseball program than WKU.

There has been a change in the selection process for rankings. While the committee kept the RPI formula unchanged, it adjusted the selection process and how it presents the data to the committee. The first is to bring the quadrant system to baseball. This was a tweak applied to the basketball process a few years ago and helps account for where a game was played rather than just focusing on the opponent. This may be a minor help to our RaiderGang.
The selection committee will also this year be given a new rating system, KPI (Kevin Pauga Index), to compare teams. KPI is not replacing RPI, and it specifically will not be a selection criterion for the tournament. Several other sports use a similar setup for their selections. That all sounds a bit murky, but it boils down to this: the committee members will be given the information but will not be required to consider it. RPI, not KPI, continues to be the base for all other metrics—strength of schedule, the quadrants, etc.
This seems to be the most important change. Previously, the team sheets the selection committee is given displayed a team’s record in games against teams ranked 1-25 in RPI, 26-50, 50-100 and 100+. Now, the location of a game will factor into what quadrant it counts toward. Quad 1 is home games against teams 1-25 in RPI, neutral games against 1-40 and road games against 1-60. Quad 2 is home games against 26-50, neutral games against 41-80 and road games against 61-120. Quad 3 is home games against 51-100, neutral games against 81-160 and road games against 121-240. Quad 4 is home games against 101+, neutral games against 161+ and road games against 241+.
I do not think these changes change things very much. But there you have it.

College Baseball Central on X asked for predictions this year. I went out on a limb and predicted that Wright State and Xavier would both win their Regionals this year, but fall just short of making it to Omaha. It would be the first time both teams won a Regional.
Obviously, I do not know the teams in the NCAA Regional in five months, but based on the upward trajectory, especially recruiting of both programs, I think it is about time for this to happen. It is also time for Wright State to get an indoor baseball facility.

The Rajin Cajuns were 15th in attendance in 2023 where they averaged 4120/game. They are serious about their baseball. They averaged just over 3100/game in basketball. Opening day should be a rowdy crowd.
RaiderGang could go 3-0 or they could go 0-3. My guess is that Wright State probably goes 1-2. I think the pitching is a question mark.
Neither Wright State nor Louisiana were in the Top 100 in recruiting. Xavier, Ohio State, Dayton and Cincy were all in the Top 100 for the class of 2024. Louisiana (41-24, 18-12) was predicted to finish 4th in the Sun Belt Conference.
Wright State is 2-1 all-time versus the Ragin Cajuns.
Tune in at 7 pm tonight.

Pretty impressive game coverage/production put together by Louisiana. Pitching for both teams impressive so far into the 7th, locked at 1 run apiece.

I am sitting here in my fav cigar bar in Ft. Myers watching the game. Wright State is down 1-1 in the bottom of the 4th. Boy, is it good to be watching our RaiderGang play ball. Raiderroundball tomorrow and baseball again on Sunday. This is a fun time of the year.

No, I went to the stats and they were wrong. I corrected it.
