When is the last time WSU has given up this many points? Last year, we Lost 102-97 vs Davidson but it was a double OT game.

I think the Raiders will be an above .500 team but not sure that is like 17 wins or a 22 win type of team. I don't think the first game means a ton, but rough start on the defensive side. I like that they play a pretty good non conference schedule this year should prepare them a little more for conference play.

This is only one game, but I fear this season will go much like last season. The problem goes deeper than poor defense and rebounding. This team is simply soft, both physically and mentally. They struggle mightily against teams that play a physical game. When they get down by a dozen points and things aren't going their way, they get discouraged and give up. Unfortunately it starts with the leaders/veterans. I felt like I saw similar things tonight that I saw during the Robert Morris game last season (after which one person lost his starting spot for a few games) -- not even attempting to go for the loose ball or get back and play defense after you turn the ball over, not attempting to close out on a 3-point shot attempt, etc.

I hope this was a huge wake up call for our players. If you have been reading the preseason interviews with Nagy, he has preached over and over again about the need for this team to buy into putting the same effort into playing defense as they do offense. That is the biggest issue this team has to deal with. We have been a good defensive team in the past under Nagy. We are just a bad defensive team now. If we were even a mediocre defensive team we could be successful with the offensive firepower we have. The other major issue this team has is we need to stop playing so much one on one offense and get back to moving the ball around and creating offense for the entire team. There is years and years of evidence that championship level teams don't rely on 1-2 guys to carry their team offensively. The most recent evidence is our own team last year. We were a middle of the pack HL team trying to let Trey and Brandon carry us. Last night, we tried to let Trey and Tanner carry us. We need the rest of the team to step up and start carrying their weight. AJ, Brandon, and Alex took 17 shots total and in Alex and Brandon's case, most of those were at the end of the game when things were out of reach. Trey took 21 shots. Tanner took 12 shots. That cannot happen. We need our other starters to step up and contribute. Those 3 guys have all been in our system for 3 or more years. They need to play like they have been in our system for 3+ years. We played 4 guys off the bench. They played a combined 45 minutes and contributed 6 points, 6 rebounds, and had 7 TOs. Three of those guys were playing their first collegiate game on the road in front of one of the larger crowds they will play against this year so I am willing to give them a pass. I don't have the same patients for Welage. Our fan base keeps preaching that Welage needs to be playing major minutes. He played 9 minutes and had 1 foul and 2 TOs. That was his contribution to the box score. He is a senior. He needs to start playing like one.
Last night was just one game. It can be a wake up call and reset for the rest of the season if the guys buy into what our staff is trying to teach. If they don't buy in, this is going to be a huge disappointment of a season.

Wright State hung tough the first half and even had a decent lead at the beginning of the game. The 2nd half was a different story. I see the Raiders losing the first three games but gaining a ton of good experience for league play. Keep the faith! Raiders will win the Horizon League!

Several stats jumped off the page from this game. CSU scored 28 points off fast breaks and 46 points in the paint. Our guys just got beat down the court on defense. That's not acceptable. CSU had 37 assists to our 8 with 5 players in double figures while we had just 2. They shared the ball while our offense is cotrolled by basically 2 players. Plus you can't give up 60 points in one half of a game and expect to win.

37 assists jumped off the page for me. 20 assists in a game is a solid number. CSU's 37 assists are tied for the most in a D-I game since Utah had 41 vs Mississippi Valley State in 2019.
The last time Wright State allowed more than 105 points was January 29, 1994 @ UIC (Lost 109-85)
