HL Basketball Standings and remaining schedules

With one week to go, Wright State is essentially in a three way tie with GB and YSU for second, trailing Oakland by one loss, and ahead of NKU by one. 

Oakland (14-5, only 1 game left) plays Detroit at home, so realistically no one is catching them for first.

YSU (13-6, 1 game left) also plays Detroit at home, and we lose the tie breaks with YSU, so we probably are not catching them either.

GB (12-6) plays at Cleve St and at MKE.  They could easily lose one or both of those games, especially if Noah Reynolds is still out (I have no info on why he didn't play this week).  GB holds the tiebreak over us.

WSU (12-6) plays PFW (9-9) and NKU (11-7) both at home.  If we can win both those games, we will mostly likely finish 3rd, but still in 4th if GB wins both.  If we only beat NKU, we still finish ahead of them for 4th.

NKU (11-7) plays at RMU, then at WSU.  RMU has a lot of close losses at home recently (CSU beat them by 2 today on a shot with 1.1 seconds left), so this could be a tough game for NKU.

If we beat NKU, we will have the tie breaker and would finish at worst 4th regardless of what we do against PFW.  If we lose to NKU, we will have split with them, and its unclear what the tiebreaks are.  It also would be likely that we and NKU then finish tied for 4th and 5th.  In that case we then would play them again in the first game of the tourney, the only question is at home or in Highland Heights.  I don't like this scenario! 

Cleveland State and Milwaukee (both 10-8, tied for 6th) can only catch us only if we lose both games and they win both.   They each play IUPUI and GB, and both get GB at home.   We swept CSU, so they would still be behind us.  Split with MKE, so tiebreaks are unclear.  They both could catch or pass NKU for 5th if we knock the Norse off.

If the HL tiebreaks for teams that split are still "best win", then our win today against Oakland is really going to help us with any teams we split with.  But we still were swept by YSU and GB, so we'll lose any ties with either of them.

Bottom line, we need to win these two games, but especially the game against NKU which guarantees a top 4 finish for a bye plus home game in the HL tourney.

Lots of hoops to be played, but assuming Oakland beats Detroit I am nearly certain that WSU would lose out on a head-to-head tiebreaker with NKU and a 3-way tiebreaker with NKU & Green Bay.

I believe with the outcomes of tonights' games WSU can finish either the 4 or the 5 seed.
NKU could finish as 3, 4, or 5. WSU would either play:

NKU at home
NKU on road
GB on road

1. Oakland, 14-5. With win at home against Detroit (likely), finishes first.

2. Youngstown, 14-6, season complete.

3. Green Bay, 13-6. Remaining game at Milwaukee. Tiebreaks among the top 3 unclear, but all are guaranteed to have a bye then host in the tourney.

4.,5. Wright State, and NKU, both 12-7. Play each other. Winner gets the 4 seed, and the loser is likely to be the 5 seed so they will play again next week.

6. MKE, 11-8, hosts GB. With a win will move into tie with WSU/NKU loser for 5th, tie breaks unclear. With loss, will likely drop into tie with FW and CSU for 6-8.

7.,8. PFW and CSU, both 10-9 CSU hosts IUPUI, and FW hosts RMU, so both are likely to win.

9. RMU, 6-13. Locked into 9 seed.

10. IUPUI, 2-17.

11. Detroit, 1-18. Would have to beat Oakland to move up to 10. It is a rivalry, but not going to happen.

The Wright State women can lock up the 4 seed and a home tourney game with a win either tomorrow at Oakland or Saturday at Detroit. They beat both those teams at home, but Detroit is tough. Outside chance of tying PFW for 3rd if WSU wins them both, and FW loses at home to Youngstown, who has been on a tear lately.

I do not think NKU or Wright State can fall below the 5 seed.

If Milwaukee wins that means GB loses and that rids us of the 3-way tiebreaker mess for the 1 seed. Even if Oakland loses to Detroit they would win the tiebreak with YSU since they swept them. As a result NKU/WSU would hold the tiebreak over Milwaukee since they each beat Oakland and Milwaukee did not

Wright State will either be the 4 or 5 seed: the 4-seed hosting NKU or the 5-seed visiting NKU or GB.

The woman's team lost in double OT at Oakland tonight in a game they led throughout. WSU led by 8-12 most of the second half, but Oakland tied the game up with 3 seconds left. Two weeks ago the lady raiders were solidly in 3rd place, but they've now lost 3 of 4 to teams they beat earlier in the season, and are in danger of losing the bye and home game that comes with a top 4 seed. Still in 4th, but 3 teams are one game behind, including the team we play.

They now need to beat Detroit on the Titans' senior day to stay the #4 seed, and avoid falling into a possible 4 way tie for 4th-7th place. Most likely would be a 2 or 3 way tie with Detroit and possibly Youngstown, because Milwaukee would have to beat top-2 GB to get into that tie. Youngstown will have to win at P-FW to get into that tie -- PFW is locked into the #3 seed, but Youngstown has been on a tear late in the season. WSU split with MKE and YSU, and if they lose to Det, will also have split with them, so tie breaks are unclear.

Bottom line, the women need to beat Detroit to keep the #4 seed, similar to the men having to beat NKU to keep theirs.

I was hoping Wright State would accept a bid to the CBI and give Tanner Holden a chance to score 2,000 for WSU. Assume WSU was offered to play in the CBI, because only 15 teams accepted the invitation to join the 16 team tournament. Also, Chicago State, with a 12 -18 record, is going to the CBI.

The CBI was never under consideration. It is a huge waste of time and money that should be spent on something that will benefit the program. If you haven’t noticed, we just lost 3 players that we need to replace for next year. We should all want our staff to be putting 100% of their time and finances into adding to the roster for next year. I would be pissed beyond belief if we were wasting time game planning for a useless tournament when we have 3 major holes to fill for next season.

Tanner did score 2,000 at WSU.

You are correct, Tanner scored 2,003 points while playing for Wright State.  Didn't realize he had scored 24 points in the NKU game.  Still having a hard time accepting that WSU did not win that game against NKU on March 7, so I didn't go back and check the stat line, it is so depressing how they choked it away at the end of the game.
