In 1987 I was helping Medical Staff for the Raiders. Tony Ortiz and I were discussing needs. I suggested equipping a suture area to suture lacerations at the Nutter Center. Later that year a player for Alabama State had laceration above left eye during game on Friday night. I was able to suture soon after it happened. The player used ice on the laceration and returned to play on Saturday without eye being swollen. This is now present in many arenas. Not sure if we were the first but may have been. I do know there was an article in Dayton Daily news about it on Sunday and I had a call from UD physician and I explained what equipment they needed. They did get a physician who could do facial lacerations to help if needed.
