I hope he can immediately contribute on the defensive side of the ball because his offensive numbers weren't good at Norfolk State last year. The team could really use someone in the "top defender" mold that has been missing recently.

It will be interesting to see how he is involved in the offense.

Really looking forward to this basketball season. Excited to see a younger coach get an opportunity to take Wright State to greatness!

Jack Doumbia is going to be an interesting player to watch this year. His story is compelling. On paper his basketball career is not very impressive, but the WSU basketball staff sees something in the kid and decided to give him a chance. Everyone loves an underdog story and it is great to see Jack get a chance to prove himself at Wright State. This will also be a good test for the Wright State coaching staff, were they able to find a diamond in the rough in Jack or will his one year at WSU be a waste. Doumbia seems to be very athletic and has a chip on his shoulder, if given a chance he might be an amazing player. His story reminds me of Paul Darkwa, another long-shot WSU recruit from 2009. Darkwa spent eight years in the Navy and was a freshman at WSU at the age of 26. I remember the old Wright State Message Board was buzzing when the 6'7" Darkwa was signed. He was described as a man amongst boys, slam dunking at will, a one man wrecking crew dominating his military basketball leagues. Darkwa only played one year at WSU, scored 28 points with 37 rebounds. There was also the Sterling Collins experiment back in 1993, but that seemed more like a publicity stunt.

I agree with the Darkwa comparison! I was hopeful for Paul being a Navy veteran myself and think he provided value to the team that was beyond the court. Will be interesting to see how Doumbia and the other transfers can contribute this year and down the road.

For those wanting to watch it live on ESPN+, WSU (men’s and women’s) is scheduled for 12:20 tomorrow.
