Wow! Dismal Student turnout tonight. We got spanked by UK and playing a d3 school. So, when would they come? Central State? Bad Horizon teams?

Norris literally needs to be benched, not startling pg. if you can’t shoot, pass or defend, wtf are you doing on the court

Nothing else to do on campus. And you get 25 kids??? Sargent looks overpaid at $350,000/yr. The arena is silly with the current seating arrangement. They have only one "marque" home game against Air Force. Wright State should look at dropping down to Division 2 or 3 - I imagine they probably already are. It's just not Basketball. Like I asked in an earlier post, how can the school justify keeping the Men & Women Soccer teams. Again, no student interest and that will now be a bigger money loser.

I cannot imagine ever NOT re-newing my season tickets...however...I'm done with wasting my time on exhibition games and games against teams like Ohio Christian and Central State...unless I'm bored with college football on a Saturday evening.
I wasn't there last night, but I knew last year that if we were ever to rely on Norris to be our starting PG That we'd be in big trouble. How did no one on the staff not also see that? Even if we go to Solomon at PG, what happens when he's tired or dinged-up?

Callaghan did not play last night. I read where he was injured during the Kentucky game. What is the status on his injury?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure we tried to sign some JUCO point guards out of the portal in the off-season. We just weren't successful.
That still lies with the coaching staff (and on our NIL budget) but want to push back a bit on the notion that nobody on the staff thought we needed more PG help this year.

Through 2 games I have to say that I really think Wright State made a huge mistake promoting Sargent. He is just way over his head and making really questionable decisions. His staff: he should have targeted at least one veteran coach that could bring something new to the program. Instead he brought in 2 coaches with no coaching experience. Scheduling: we are 2 games into the season and haven’t played a game that is going to help us prepare for the HL yet. Game prep: what coach in their right mind goes to a place like UK and tries to play at their pace. The reason Butler was able to dominate the HL and complete against ranked team regularly when they were in the conference was because they played very disciplined basketball and slowed games down to their pace. They would never in a million years try to get into a run and gun shootout with a team that was that much bigger, more athletic, and deeper with them. A good high school coach would know better than that. Roster management: not signing an experienced point guard last spring was strike one. Wasting recruiting time and effort trying to convince Welage to come back for his senior year instead of looking for an experienced point guard was strike two. Playing Norris over Callaghan is strike 3. Redshirting 2 of our freshmen in this era of unlimited transfers and NIL money should be a fireable offense for wasting athletic department money developing a kid that most likely won’t finish his career here. To say the least, I’m completely underwhelmed by Sargent so far. We're all entitled to our opinions, but come on, let's give the man a chance. As for Solomon over Norris, we all agree on that, but he can't play when he's in street clothes. I'm pretty sure once the league season starts in a few weeks, Solomon will be getting more minutes even if its still coming off the bench, and I'd be willing to bet he'll be starting by mid January.

That still lies with the coaching staff (and on our NIL budget) but want to push back a bit on the notion that nobody on the staff thought we needed more PG help this year. Our staff kicked the tires on multiple wings and a few posts and a few point guards. I don’t think they offered a single point guard in the late signing period. Our current point guard situation has absolutely nothing to do with our NIL situation either. Our NIL program is one of the top 3-4 in the HL. We didn’t sign a PG because our head coach didn’t think anyone that they looked at was an upgrade to what we had on our roster already and that IS a major problem. That was not the opinion of the rest of our staff. Nagy had some very questionable blind loyalty to certain players in the past that didn’t deserve it based on their production on the court. I think it drove our fan base nuts that he would play some of his veteran players over freshmen with more potential because of that loyalty. I see the same problem already with Sargent. We are going to redshirt a freshman this year that quite honestly should be starting in Bruskotter and giving minutes to Norris and Welage. Neither of them is going to help us win this year and they are just taking minutes away from players that could use more time on the court to gain experience but to also give us the best chance to win right now. Another poster said he is confident that Callaghan’s minutes will increase through our non conference schedule and he could be in our starting lineup by conference play. If it takes until our conference games to start for Sargent to figure out that Callaghan should be starting he really should be fired. He did more in his limited time on the court vs UK than anything I have seen from Norris in the last 4 years at Wright State. Sargent needs to prove he was the right man for the job here at Wright State. He needs to stop playing favorites and start playing the guys that give us the best chance to win. If he can’t or won’t do that, he deserves to have a very short tenure here. I have always liked Clint, but he needs to start making better choices for the program.
