Took in the first ladies home game tonight against Ind St and it was not pretty. 15 points total in the first half! I don't get it, this team scored in the 60s in both their first two road games, including against Wisconsin. Other than Claire Henson, everyone else looked totally scared to shoot the entire half. Passed up open shot after open shot, and when they did shoot, everything came up short, shooting about 20% for the half. When they drove, kept turning it over. Ind St wasn't very impressive either, but they were still beating us soundly.
The second half was more aggressive, and WSU scored more in each quarter than the entire first half. Final ISU 68, WSU 51.
Of those we know can score, Lauren Scott was not dressed and did not play (hopefully will be back soon?), and Makiya Miller had an off night (1 for 6). They really need a couple of the newcomers to step up. Amaya Staton did finish with 10 on 50% shooting, almost all in the second half, and looked really good at times. The others had a few moments here and there, but all looked to be role players who don't yet know what their role is going to be.
I hope this game was an aberration or this is going to be a very frustrating season. Can't win games shooting 32% from the field and 18% from 3. And we will face much better and more athletic teams within our league than the opposing team tonight.

Brought in legit transfers who were talented and knew each other so they connected right away. This year's team just isn't talented. Sure, Henson is not scared to shoot the ball but at what cost? Shooting below 30% and her decision making is costing the Raiders at least 4 possessions per game if you count her turnovers. Staton has the chance to be an all-league performer, but that's about it on this roster. We'll start off 0-6 with the first win coming against Findlay. Might sneak one win in against Oakland and one against YSU, but it'll be a single digit win total this year. Prediction: 3-27. This might be my last year of season tickets for women's games and I will upgrade my men's tickets.

Women looked much better against Tenn St. Claire Henson continued to be the dominant player on the floor, but I'm afraid we're going to wear her out. Others looked good in spots, and as stated above, Staton is going to be the other one they'll lean on. Still not clear the level of the competition. I have the feeling if this team can find wins, it will be always be by winning ugly. Never going to be offensive beauty, but they might be able to win tough rock fight games.
Very weird having 5000+ screaming elementary school kids in attendance. Even weirder that the loadest screams were during time outs when "Get Loud" was on teh jumbotron.

This was a game I was chopping up as a loss but we were able to hang on. Tonight will be a different story as Bellarmine is pretty dang good. I would compare us to Ohio U. and the Knights beat them by 30 on the road. Tonight will most likely be a 20-30 point game, just hoping we compete and stay healthy.
