Raiders find minutes for all against Kenyon

FAIRBORN | Wright State coach Paul Biancardi was able to secure valuable minutes for all his players and the game didn't get sloppy, so he was certainly happy after the Raiders' 88-47 victory over Division III Kenyon on Monday night at the Nutter Center.
"I think they all played pretty well," Biancardi said of his reserves. "The defensive intensity was there for 40 minutes. Sometimes in a game like this, people can do their own things."
Only Reinaldo Smith failed to play at least 10 minutes, and he was in the game for nine.
The bench scored nearly half of WSU's points with 41.
Why Kenyon?Needing a home game, the Raiders contacted Kenyon through assistant coach Brian Donoher, who is friends with Matt Croci, Kenyon's coach.
Originally, the game was supposed to be played early in the year, but some dates were nixed because of the NCAA investigation of Ohio State involving Biancardi.
Unlucky sevensOne player who didn't score and played only 10 minutes as a starter was senior Jaron Taylor, who almost was a game-day scratch. Taylor, who recently took an elbow above the right eye in practice that required seven stitches, caught another elbow Sunday. He needed seven more stitches over his left eye.
Insisting he could play, doctors made him wear goggles, which he briefly discarded during play, then had to put back on.
Business as usualDaShaun Wood scored his 21 points in 21 minutes. He never let up.
"If you step between the lines, you want to play well," Wood said. "We wanted to play the way we've been playing so that can carry over to the next game."
Later starting timeThursday's game at Youngstown State will begin at 7:30 p.m. instead of 7 because the YSU women are hosting Milwaukee at 5:15. The Raiders' game at Butler on Jan. 28 at 2:15 p.m. will be proceeded by the Butler women's game against WSU beginning at noon.
Klinger brings fansFormer Bowling Green coach and UD assistant Pat Haley was an interested observer along with several other Bellbrook residents because of Kenyon point guard Josh Klinger, a sophomore.
Although he scored only two points, Klinger is averaging more than six points and leads the Lords in assists with 41, including four against the Raiders.
"Josh is going to be a great player," Croci said. "We're trying to give him more freedom."
WSU leads seriesThirty years ago, on Dec. 30, 1975, the Lords beat the then Division II Raiders 73-68 despite Bob Grote scoring 26 for Wright State. That was the last meeting between the schools until Monday. Wright State leads the series 4-2.
