I like to see us play anyone of those top 4 teams or OU. I wouldn't mind seeing OU on our schedule every year like Miami.

We need to upgrade our schedule if we ever want to be taken seriously for an at large bid or if we want to get in the running for top recruits. There is a reason Butler has had so much success the last decade, they schedule to be champions. Here is the highlights of their 2009/10 schedule: @ ESPN's Anaheim Classic (UCLA, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Clemson and Minnesota) @ Stanford @ Northwestern @ Alabama-Birmingham. You are absolutely right about that, Nutt House. Our scheduling needs a serious upgrade if we want to compete with Butler for recruits and beat them on the court. Their schedule next year is one that not many BCS schools would be willing to play. Their SOS next year should really be high, not to mention their RPI if they win most of those games. Kudos to the Bulldogs.

It also took Butler more than a decades worth of success to be able to schedule like that. I want us to upgrade our scheduling and recruiting too, but it is going to take some time and continued success to get us there.

NCAA places Northeastern men's basketball program on probation Saturday, 25 April 2009 BOSTON (AP) -- Northeastern University has been placed on probation for two years and had its scholarships and recruiting privileges reduced because of violations in its men's basketball program, the NCAA announced Friday. The school's recruiting violations included giving unauthorized benefits to a student-athlete and banned activity by a booster, someone who helps an athletics department land new players, the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions said. The booster repeatedly e-mailed and telephoned an international student-athlete and at least one of his relatives to encourage him to travel to the United States to attend Northeastern, bought him a plane ticket and put him up in a hotel, the committee said. The NCAA said the case resulted from the university basketball staff's failure to recognize the impropriety of the booster's involvement and a former associate athletics director's failure to question the booster's participation in recruiting activities from the summer of 2003 through Dec. 28, 2004. It said the university's punishment would include probation from Friday to April 23, 2011; a reduction in men's basketball athletics scholarships to no more than 12 for the 2008-09 academic year, from the maximum of 13; and a reduction in the number of official visits in men's basketball to nine for the academic year, from a maximum of 12. Northeastern didn't immediately return a telephone message left after hours Friday at its communications office. Several other offices had recorded messages saying they would be closed until Monday. The NCAA said on its Web site Friday that the university and its former head coach didn't know the booster had bought a one-way ticket for the student-athlete so he could travel to Boston, enroll at the university and join its basketball team. It said when the student arrived in Boston, the booster took him from the airport to a hotel for a night in a room registered to the booster but paid for by the university. It said the student made more than $201 in international phone calls using a calling card belonging to the university and that the school's former director of basketball operations made several long-distance calls while the student was present to gather information on his amateur status and academic eligibility. Although the university didn't authorize the personal calls, the NCAA said, its former head coach and former director of operations failed to monitor the calling card and prevent the student from using it. It didn't identify the student, the booster or any of the university officials. www.recruitrecon.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5303&Itemid=1

This sucks. We were counting on them to be a solid opponent for us next year.

I've been thinking about our mystery buy game opponent that hasn't been announced. My guess is Alabama or Auburn. We played in Arkansas and Texas last year so Cooperwood and Land could play in their home states. I think we play in Alabama this year so JD Gardner gets the same opportunity.

The question is whether they would mind a game with us. He's not talking about a home/home series. He's talking about the buy game we scheduled with a BCS program. I think either Auburn or Alabama would be happy to play us at their place.

Don't forget that we could also play UAB. I believe the buy game is supposed to be against a BCS program. UAB is not a BCS program. I wouldn't mind playing them, but not as a buy game.

Uh, I know what he's talking about. Obviously we're not in discussions with an SEC school about a home-home. Again, the question is whether Auburn or Alabama would want to play us at their place. There is no doubt we would want to play them. We get approached by SEC/ACC/Big 10 schools about buy games all of the time so it's not a matter of would they want to play us. The only real questions are is it worth our while ($, RPI, TV?) and can we find a date that works for both of our schedules. WSU typically doesn't like to play too many buy games unless they make it worth our while. When we played Wake Forest last year, we made 70 grand and the game was on national tv vs a top 15 team.
