Utah is a little to far to travel. With the economy the way it is, i dont think WSU is going to want to travel to Utah next year. All that aside i would love to play them. A very under the radar good program. But can we get this done, I want to get my season tickets lol. We are going to the state of Washington this year. Traveling to Utah wouldn't be a problem if we could schedule them. Not exactly apples to apples. The Washington trip is for three games, and we are also getting paid $70,000 or so to do it, so travel expenses are not really an issue. Though, at this point, if we could get them to schedule a home/home, we should take it. We are running out of options.

Though, at this point, if we could get them to schedule a home/home, we should take it. We are running out of options. The athletic department has been cutting back on expenses for most sports, but not on men's basketball. (Read the DDN article again). We will continue to try to schedule the best game we can get, even if it is going to cost us a bit in travel next year. Honestly, I don't think it will be a problem in cost next year either. We have many games to schedule next year. We can very easily schedule a game nearby to Utah State to help cut down on costs. We could take a money game on the east coast or participate in an exempt tournament on the east coast (Like Washington) and play Utah State on the way to or from that game. There are several ways to cut down on that cost. Heck, the airline industry is hurting from the poor economy. If we book our tickets early enough in advance it might be cheaper to fly there than to charter a bus for a local game. Let's just hope we can somehow find a solid team to play for our last game.

Milwaukee to face Western Kentucky in NIT Season Tip-OffAug. 12, 2009 The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will face Western Kentucky in its first game of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off, the NCAA announced today. The Panthers and Hilltoppers will play Nov. 16 in Baton Rouge, La., as part of the South Regional. A game time has not yet been set. Louisiana State is the host for the regional, with the Tigers taking on Indiana State in the site's other first round game. The winners and losers square off the following day. Milwaukee knows it will play a total of four games in the event. If UWM can win twice in Baton Rouge, it would advance to the NIT Season Tip-Off Semifinals at Madison Square Garden. Otherwise, the Panthers will be assigned to one of four consolation sites, with those destinations determined following the conclusion of first and second round play. This is Milwaukee's second appearance in the NIT's preseason event. The Panthers opened the 2005-06 season with a loss at Memphis in the NIT when the tournament followed a single-elimination format. UWM has also appeared in the postseason NIT once, beating Rice before falling at Boise State in 2004. UWM went 17-14 last season while claiming 11 wins in the Horizon League. The Panthers have been to the NCAA Tournament three times in this decade, winning three games. UWM also has three regular season league titles to its credit. In 2009-10, the Panthers bring back much of their team from a season ago, including all-league performer Tone Boyle and all-newcomer team honoree James Eayrs. Western Kentucky dropped a heartbreaking, 83-81 decision to Gonzaga in the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago. The Hilltoppers finished 25-9 overall and return five of their top six scorers this season. www.horizonleague.org/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/081209aab.html

August 26, 2009 Riek cleared to play at Miss. State STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- The NCAA has cleared Mississippi State basketball recruit John Riek to play most of the 2009-2010 season. The university said the 7-foot-1 Sudan native must sit out nine games -- or 30 percent of the season -- before he can play. The NCAA found Riek received unspecified benefits before enrolling in college, potentially compromising his amateur status. Mississippi State compliance officer Bracky Brett the suspension is the maximum allowed under NCAA rules short of barring a player from competition. Once among the most sought-after recruits in the nation, Riek spent last season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., rehabilitating a knee injury. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/basketball/ncaa/08/26/riek.ap/index.html

September 1, 2009 Varnado released from hospitalJACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi State Bulldogs center Jarvis Varnado has been released from a north Mississippi hospital after a battery of tests failed to show why he fell ill. Varnado became nauseous during a workout Monday and was taken in for tests. He ended up staying overnight when doctors were unable to complete their examination. Further tests Tuesday failed to show why Varnado became ill. University spokesman Gregg Ellis says Varnado can return to practice in "a couple of days." The 6-foot-9 player from Brownsville, Tenn., is one of the top returners after leading the nation in blocked shots the last two seasons. He led the Bulldogs to the Southeastern Conference tournament title and was named MVP. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4438683
