g & g, three thoughts, first i am not "fixated" on anyone's schedule. second, i would love a home and home with xavier. is there something that makes you think we couldn't play both of them. and third, i specifically said we could combine gonzaga with another west coast game. but i would never pass up a chance to get a home and home with a consistent nationally ranked team. ever.

second, i would love a home and home with xavier. is there something that makes you think we couldn't play both of them. Yes, we only have one opening for next year's schedule. There is no way we can play both schools. and third, i specifically said we could combine gonzaga with another west coast game. but i would never pass up a chance to get a home and home with a consistent nationally ranked team. ever. And as I previously said--it is asinine to use our entire travel budget for the year on ONE game on the other side of the country. Combining it with another game on the west coast would only make the trip more expensive. My whole argument is that there are better ways to spend our money. Arguing that you think wasting even more money to play multiple games on the west coast doesn't improve your argument. We don't have the money for 1 game. We sure in the heck don't have the money for a second game too.

I wish we had the money to schedule anyone anywhere in the country, but the truth is we do have to take finances into acount. I agree with G & G, there are many options closer to home that makes more sense than trying to play a west coast team. Below is a list of mid-majors in the top 100 that make more sense.
20 Old Dominion 22 Xavier 24 George Mason 29 Temple 35 Harvard 40 Princeton 41 Richmond 43 Missouri State 49 VA Commonwealth 51 Belmont 53 Oakland 54 Marshall 60 Wichita St. 68 Iona 69 UCF 72 Charleston 74 Drexel 75 Long Island 77 Morehead St. 78 Kent St. 79 Bucknell 81 Tulsa 84 Indiana St. 86 Hofstra 88 James Madison 90 Long Beach St. 91 E. Tennessee St. 93 St. Peter's 95 Vermont 96 East Carolina 97 Fairfield 100 Robert Morris

let me think, east tennessee state....gonzaga. east carolina....gonzaga. gee whiz, you can't be serious can you??? with the possible exception of vcu, who so far are a 1 hit wonder, and xavier all those teams together do not have the name recognition and national impact of gonzaga. when you talk about mid majors who have moved up to being considered majors, gonzaga is at the top of that list. frankly your list of teams is a joke when considered an alternative to a gonzaga game. harvard? really??? are you being serious??? gonzaga at the nutt would be a huge draw for us. just huge. lots of money to be made there. and as i said, combine that trip out west with a second game, perhaps a pac 10 team, which could well be a buy game for them, and we could generate more than enough money to support this trip. but golly, keep thinking small, and we will continue to be small. if we want to move onto the national stage, then this is just the opportunity we need to go for. hopefully our leadership is spending more time thinking about how we can do things like this and not thinking about why we cannot do them.

You are delusional if you think Gonzaga would bring in a huge crowd to the Nutter Center. They aren't the name you think they are. They will bring more than our average OOC game but off the list of top 100 teams above, the A-10, CAA, and MVC schools would draw just as well because they will bring their own fans too. If they don't it doesn't matter. They still provide the same RPI benefit as Gonzaga would which is more important anyways. The whole goal of scheduling is to give us a good enough schedule to get into the post season. There are many teams that help us get there much easier than playing Gonzaga. And if you have listened to Coach Donlon speak you would know that your idea of playing a buy game on the west coast is the exact opposite of what we want to do in scheduling. You have very little chance of winning buy games on the road. The only reason we have played them in the past or plan to in the future is if it benefits us with exposure. Playing Wake Forest and IU the past few years got us a nationally televised game. That is the main reason we played them. Playing anyone on the west coast for cash isn't going to help us. Even if the game does get on tv it won't help our midwest recruiting because the game will have a 10 or 10:30 start time and no one will see it here.

bedford, undoubtedly a buy game for them, no return game in chicago. and g & g, we certainly will have to just disagree on this one. i t hink gonzaga would be comparable game to most bcs games at the nutter. so i guess we just don't agree.

They should just re-run this headline every season.
