Makes sense if true. Balwigaire fell out of favor late in the year and Cuffee never could break into the rotation. I wish them both the best where ever they end up.

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier, but Alex Pritchett is also on the list.

I wouldn't be shocked if there are 1 or 2 more leaving

I wouldn't be shocked if there are 1 or 2 more leaving I would be. The rest of the players were in our primary rotation and should be expecting to play next year. Balwigaire lost his spot in the rotation to Griffin. Cuffee couldn't get into the rotation. Pritchett red-shirted and coach talked about him at his last coaches show like he wasn't going to be able to contribute this coming year. I think they will all find a home at a lower division where they can contribute and be happy. I don't see anyone else looking for a new home, but that is just me.

That takes care of Yoho's scholarship and allows us to add 1-2 more players. We really need to bring in another guard that we can count on to score and a big.

Do we see anyone on that list we could possibly pick up? Trey Ziegler would be nice but that's wishful thinking.

So should this news be filed under "bittersweet"? I've read arguments that would favor us running off a few players and some that feel that it is bad perception-wise for our program.

I appreciate raiderfan's humor, but counting the 5 continuing guards plus the 2 guard recruits we have seven guards . That leaves us with 4 big(?) men. I know Billy would love to land a PG as a starter or back up for Reggie. If he goes that route we'll have 8 guards. Of course, he could use Reggie as a back up to Julius, with Vance and Matt as options if needed.
That leaves one spot, or two, for big men. Personally I'd like to see us land either a C or PF, or both. I don't think AJ or Tavares are centers, although we can slot them there, so I think a true center would be our top priority. In fact, if we add two big men I would give serious consideration to landing a JC center and a freshman center. The JC would be our immediate help while the FR would have two years as an understudy. That leaves AJ, Armond, and Travares to share the PF spot. Cole could share the SF spot along with Kendall, Matt, and Vance. That would give us 5 juniors. After the following season, 2013-14, we could recruit 4 true freshmen and and a JC as the fifth replacement player. Adding two JCs next year would give us 6 juniors to replace after 2013-14.
As you can see, I think having 7 guards is more than enough and adding an 8th would be overkill IMO. Unless, of course, the coach is unhappy with the returning guards, which means there could be further transfers.
Going with 7 guards allows us to have 6 big men, which I think is vital, given the risk of injuries, illnesses, and such. My first option would be to land two centers as mentioned above. We need an immediate impact player there, and we need his replacement in two years, so get them now if we can.
I am not surprised with John transferring. I wish him luck in finding a team that suits his talents. I am disappointed to see Curfee leaving. And I am surprised that Alex is leaving without playing a minute for us. Since he didn't play this year, would he be immediately eligible to play next season in DI?
Adding four players, or about a third of the team, gives us a chance for dramatic improvement, so these two new adds are vital to next season. Regardless of what people/positions we add, I would hope at least one of them can be a starter that can make a significant impact.

ok, i am going to ask the hard question here. we brought in what, 6 new players or so this year. and now it has been determined, after only one year, that 3 of them cannot help our program. that is a pretty poor batting average, and not one that will build a quality program. and wolf, i do not think he can play next year if he goes to div i. in fact, i think he will lose a year of eligibility sitting out next year and only have 3 years to play. the fact that he is not able to play for a not very good raider team suggests to me that he will go to div ii or iii. if i am wrong about the div i eligibility i am sure someone will correct me.

Keith, I was going to make that same comment about the high failure rate with last year's class, but I figured that I'd get grief from folks who don't take kindly to "critical" comments about the program. I think your view is like mine, namely, how do we know this year's replacement will be any better than the kids recruited this past year. Every year is a form of a crapshot. This past year we had the benefit of May and I'd say Reggie. That's not a very successful class in terms of their total performance.
I also notice that of the 4 players we are currently going after that 3 are guards. I guess if our guards are filling the net with their outside shots or making the lay ups and the subsequent foul shot, that rebounding becomes even more of a non-essential.

I agree with you wolf that Reggie was the main contributor from the FR class through most of the season, but towards the end of the season, I liked the play of Kendall Griffin over Reggie, and many from the SO class. He played fast, took chances on the offensive boards and played with the athleticism of D1 player. I like his aggressive attitude and I bet he works his butt off over the summer. As far as replacing transfers, I still think that we can use some experience at the PG position, and then go after a post player with a rebounders mentality.

Of course, he could use Reggie as a back up to Julius, with Vance and Matt as options if needed. Neither of our incoming recruits are going to be playing guard for WSU. Yoho is coming in as an undersized PF. He said as much in the first article after he committed to WSU. He played SF/PF for his high school team this year. He is 6-6 and should weigh around 230 next year. He is already over 220. Roddy is coming in as a SF. He played center on his high school team. Neither player is a guard. We only have 2 guards that we can rely on to handle the ball next year: Reggie and Julius. Vest has the ability but he has never been healthy enough to rely on him. We really need to add a PG to this roster. I think we will look to add another post player, but I doubt it is a traditional center everyone wants. We will probably add a 6-7 to 6-8 forward.
