I can't tell you whether to read anything into the status of Armond Battle or not. The roster on wsuraiders.com has been updated a few times since it was switched to 2012-13 and he remains on it. Jerran Young has a current listing in the university directory...not sure if that means anything ( at first it was just an email address but has been adjusted to confirm that this particular Jerran Young is an undergraduate student and lists his major ). FWIW

I like the roster this year but it is interesting that we don't have any seniors at all.

CincyDrummer and all, looks like someone did delete Armond from the roster listed on wsuraiders.com

Donlon's comments about there not being much loyalty from today's athletes seemed very hypocritical to me considering he basically ran off 3-4 of our players to open up spots for new recruits. Loyalty works both ways.

or you could say that he was loyal to them by being honest regarding their playing time this year. honesty is part of loyalty. Opti Tell that to Armond, who was planning on being a member of this team up until about a week ago when he was replaced by Davis.

The most interesting thing to me were his comments regarding Pacher and Vest. It sounds like he sees them as important features in this team's make-up. Up to now I suspect most of us saw them possibly being important, but most likely serving as subs to give others a rest. I guiess we'll see what the season brings us. Perhaps Armond was hoping to begin a Masters program this year while playing ball.

From the article: “I felt a lot of pressure to win,” Donlon admitted. “Not because I was worried about losing my job, but because as a coach’s son I know how hard these jobs are to get and how fortunate I am.
“And the thing is everybody associated with the university wants us to be successful. They care so much. And I know what could happen here if basketball really took off. It puts a program, an entire university on the map. You just saw it happen at George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth and Butler.
“That for me is the pressure.”I don't buy that. If Donlon wasn't worried about his job I don't think he would have replaced over 1/2 his roster and watered down the OOC schedule this year. He knows he needs to show improvement over last year if he wants to keep his job. With the exception of not signing a post player, I like the new roster. The OOC schedule is pretty weak this year, so he should be able to get this team above .500 this year.

If he starts or comes off the bench, he is going to get a ton of minutes based soley on the fact that we only have 2 legit options at center. Vest may be a surprise to many, but before he got hurt last preseason he was being hyped as our top player by Donlon. If he can stay healthy, he could be a really good player. That's a big if considering his history but it's something we can all hope for.

Honestly, I am just happy we are going to have a full roster of athletic guys that hopefully will all be healthy. I think we need to go 9-10 players deep this year to be successful and I want all 13 players pushing each other for playing time. Solid competition makes you better and keeps you hungry. We haven't had that for years.

I hope BD stays around, especially if we have a good season this year (I believe it can happen). I would be afraid that we could lose some players/recruits,like Evans, if he gets fired.

My surprise over the coach's comments regarding Pacher and Vest were based upon Pacher playing 15 minutes a game last year and Vest playing around 10 minutes a game, though he had been injured early in the season. The new players seem to have a strong set of skills and two of them are coming in as juniors. Plus, I didn't see either of them drawing a lot of playing time at season's end. I, for instance, would have expected the Coach to mention Darling and Griffin, both of whom were playing better at the end of the season. It would be natural to expect those two to pick up where they left off last season and then move their play up a notch. I didn't think Pacher and Vest finished last season on an upswing. In fact, I had the impression they may have been in the dog house a bit. Plus, Pacher has a history of suffering from foul trouble.
For the coach to single them out for mention makes me think they have stood out in their play this spring and summer. If so, that is welcome news for the fans.

I'm in the wrong business if this guy got paid to plagiarize the ddn article and spell Donlon's name wrong...

That is the reason print media is dying a slow death.
