phelps, two thoughts. first, i am pretty sure scholarships are renewable on an annual basis, so one can be taken from anyone at any time. second, since armond graduated he is in the same category as julius was, so he could hook up with any program that wanted him for his last year of eligibility, although it is really late to make a connection now. hopefully he can.

I don't see this campaign being successful. We really need to drop all of these stupid gimmicks and just focus on putting a good basketball team on the court and play good competition. That is all fans want.

I think this will take off with students a lot more than non-students. My residents from last year and this year are pretty excited about it

Perhaps this has been posted somewhere by someone else, but I am somewhat bothered when the new season hasn't even begun, we have a full squad with no seniors, and the coaching staff is offering numerous scholarships for next season to HS seniors. What exactly is the message that is being sent to our current players? We can argue that it is in response to possibly losing 2 or more players that will transfer out after this season. Or we can argue that the staff will take away 'ships from 2 or more players. I would think the staff should be totally focused on the 2012-13 team and scheduling for this season and beginning next season's scheduling, and worry about recruiting for next season only when it is known that you have to replace a few players. Off hand, I think we already have offers out there for every position on the team for the next season.

Off hand, I think we already have offers out there for every position on the team for the next season. I think you are missing the big picture here. There are several 2013 recruits on the recruiting board that are listed as having been offered by WSU. All of those offers were made in the past when WSU had scholarships open for 2013. Darryl Hicks and AJ Riley were offered over a year ago in August of 2011. Garrett Mayleben was offered in October of 2011. Mark Alstork was offered in May of 2012. CJ Wilson and Gabriel Williams-Otor were both offered in June of 2012. WSU had multiple opening when they made those offers. Last fall when we offered Hicks, Riley and Mayleben, we were trying to recruit two 2013 recruits thinking we needed to replace Mays and Battle. This summer we made more offers because we didn't know if we were going to fill all of our scholarships for 2012. I doubt any of these offers still stand. We will probably continue to recruit some of these kids if they don't sign elsewhere in the fall. Someone might leave our program next spring and we might end up re-offering one of those kids if they are available, but every college does that.

This is more directed at Phelps and Wolf41, I guess. Don't know when Armond graduated or when he was no longer in WSU's basketball plans for the season but, if a coach ran off players I doubt he would word it that way ( players might ). I don't believe a coach would tell someone they were not going to play unless the player wasn't doing their best in practice, the classroom or the community. As a coach, you are always looking for bigger and better ( that would be true if you started 5 All-American freshmen )...the staff has to believe everyone will work to improve ( with player and coach working to make it happen ). It looks to me like BigD doesn't move recruits off the first page until they are no longer in the picture as an option. In our case, I believe more than one player leaving was unfortunate and unexpected but, with our troubles getting guys to learn defense it would seem anyone that knows the system has an advantage over newcomers.

First, I would support the comments by Phelps.
Second, the "current" or #1 page on recruiting has Clark(PG), Mayleben(PF), Riley(PG), Williams(PF), Wilson(PG), and Hicks(SG). The two most recent ones were Clark and Mayleben, with the latest postings being in August. Clark's was posted most recently on Aug. 25th.
BigD usually tells us if a player has commited elsewhere. I would hope he would tell us if WSU withdrew a scholarship offer. So I have to assume that offers made to these young men are still on the table. Having these 'ships on the table when we have a full squad and no seniors seems to me to possibly send a message to our current team members, such as Sledge or even Davis our new freshman as power forwards.
Last year we had had a boat load of new players(7 freshmen and Balwigaire) as well as May and this year we'll have 8 new players( freshmen Roddy, Yoho, Davis, Bramanti, Drummond, and Collie and juniors Young and Dixon). I doubt if any school has added so many players over the last two seasons.
So I'm just wondering if it is good policy to have offers on the table when, as of now, we don't know of anyone who might be leaving after this season.

So I have to assume that offers made to these young men are still on the table. Wolf, Glory Days is pretty much right on in his comment. I update a recruits thread to say he has a WSU offer when that is published in the media or on a recruiting site. I never remove that tag because I honestly don't know for sure if/when our coaches pull that offer from a recruit. I do know that our coaches offer most scholarships on a first come/first serve kind of basis based on position. For example, if we were planning on bringing in 1 pg and 1 post in a given year, we might offer 8-9 different pg and 4-5 different centers. If we get a commitment from one of those centers, the other 3-4 are out of luck. They no longer have a commit-able offer from us. Our coaches are very upfront with recruits about those offers. They tell recruits that we are looking at multiple guys for a certain position so don't wait too long in making your decision or that scholarship might not be there waiting for you. We don't have any scholarships available for 2013 that I know of. I don't think any of the kids listed on the recruiting board for 2013 have an offer anymore. I don't know that for sure so I won't change their thread until I see it from an independent source first.

wsuraiders.com released an update on Jerran Young this morning, and updated the roster. No mention of Steven Davis .

Good to know Young is official Maybe Davis is taking a little longer to assure the academic eligibility issue. Opti That is what I was thinking. Davis is listed on the student directory, so we know he is taking classes. My guess is that Wright State is just waiting to officially hear from the NCAA's clearinghouse before they make it official.
