LMFAO. And I thought YSU was a joke of a university before.

Maybe he helped arrange for everyone on YSU's search committee to get a free tattoo.

LMFAO. And I thought YSU was a joke of a university before. It's not like they had a reputation as an academic institution that they had to worry about ruining.

Jim Tressel is going to be able to improve YSU's fundraising dramatically, but YSU is going to take a huge hit in respect from the academic world bringing in an ethically questionable former football coach that only has a master's degree to run a university.

"only a has master's degree to run a university."
As one who has worked closely with many PhD's along with many colleagues having "only a master's degree" I can confidently say it is a mistake to rely and weight one's ability solely based upon their level of postgraduate degree.

RaiderGrad is right...there is a ton of snobbery in academia, and in the minds of a lot other university administration (and their general mindset) this is poor move by YSU based on his qualifications. You bring up a good point too MRose...just because he doesn't have a PHd doesn't mean squat for how he connects with students, alumni, and manages an organization. I think this is a great move by YSU.

I would wager that most universities have a PhD as a basic job requirement for president of their university. Not having his PhD and still being under NCAA probation for his violations while at OSU make this a questionable decision for YSU.
