That is why we don't let the defense get set on Valpo's side. This should be an interesting game. I am for having tough practices but I have heard our practices are very physical. If we are getting hurt at practice maybe we need to save a little bit for the games instead.

Playing games with an 8 man roster is reminiscent of the Shilling era. Stealing a line from Yogi Berra, this season is becoming "Deja Vue all over again".

So let me recap...arguably one of the biggest road games of the conference season, and we're without our best ball handler/distributor, AND the best 3 pointer shooter on the team. In a game where we are going to have extreme difficulty scoring in the paint, this is exactly NOT what you are supposed to do. I can't remember the last time the core of our team went an entire season without ongoing nagging injuries. This is really getting old. It's getting old, but it is not surprising in the least. When a coach consistently recruits undersized and underweight SFs and plays them at PF and C and expects them to play against teams with legit size you are going to have injuries across the board. Your pretend big men are going to get hurt banging with the bigs and your guards are going to get hurt trying to play help defense in the paint against those bigs. Nothing is going to change until Donlon starts recruiting legit bigs or Grant replaces Donlon.

I agree with you Green and Gold. I like Donlon in many ways, but I find it hard to reconcile his recruiting and his style of play. I also get the impression that he emphasizes defense so much that offense and rebounding get lost in the shuffle. Of course I also think his "defense" is helped greatly by our offensive scheme, which has been described as old fashioned and boring. Maybe our guard loaded team next year can hit more of their shots than this year's experienced team. We'll see. If our defense is as good as we say it is, why don't we put more pressure on the ball being brought up court? My "guess" is that it may expose us as not being all that good on defense.
I also agree that we are losing too many players in practice over these recent years. Practice should be harder than playing a game, but there should also be limits. For example, our son had a cross country coach in HS that worked the young men hard in Friday's practice before Saturday's meet. Come Saturday their legs were beat up. Our son ran a sub-4:30 in the 7th grade and never approached that in HS. A young lady was a great runner in HS and got a full ride at N. Dame where the runners had to log 100 miles a week. She was injured most of her 4 years in South Bend. Cross training, like swimming and biking, and running fewer miles would have worked better for her than the 100 miles of running/pounding. It would have also put her in a better mindset than the same old running of 100 miles. True, there are folks who can run long distances, even in a single race, but they are exceptions.

Sidebar here since you brought it up. When I ran cross in HS, we spent Friday's lethargically jogging the course for Saturday's run...then went out for spaghetti dinner. Can't count how many trips to state we made in the early 2000s. Had the best runner in the state who still holds the D2 state championship Scioto Downs record...I like our way better than yours =]
Now 15 years late I'm training for the USAF full

February 21st game verse Detroit moved to 10pm for ESPNU I believe that puts the last 4 home games of the year all on the ESPN networks.
