One ncaa bid per decade is pathetic. I would establish baseline expectations for raider hoops to reach the postseason, the real postseason. I would let our coaches know that we expect the raiders to be in the real postseason 2-3 Times every 5 years. The goal is making the dance and anything less is not reaching the goal.

Keith, so is that more of a mission statement? I can't see someone signing something like that.

I often think Wright State seriously lacks any identity at all and for the record I am a Alumni (1995). I really believe this school should be named Wright Brothers State University. Bam, instantly nation wide when our school is mentioned on espn or anywhere else people will know who we are named for. Wright by itself is far to vague. 2nd, bring in the 2 guys who play Orville and Wilbur Wright on the commercial or some student equivalents as your mascot and make the Wright B flyer your symbol. I'm sure many of you remember the old paper air plane throws in the PE building. Bring that stuff back, people love contests like that. Maybe Air Raiders instead of just Raiders...again no identity at all.

A coach does not need to sign it. It is not part of the contract. As part of the hiring process it has to be made clear what is expected of the program, what the goals of the program are. 2nd place finishes are not the goal, 20 win seasons are not the goal. Dancing, playing in the real post season is the goal and if a coach cannot accomplish that we would find someone who can. If a coach was interviewing for our position who was not comfortable with those goals he is not the right coach for the job.

As far as scheduling goes we have quality opponents surrounding us and I don’t understand why we don’t play them. Ohio (84), Akron (93), Toledo (42), Bowling Green (198), Kent State (209), and Miami (163). These schools are close enough to where we can get their fans in our seats and help out our attendance, not to mention that this could also help us out with instate recruiting. I think we could have either Ohio State, Xavier, or Cincinnati on the schedule every year. *- rankings in (-) I agree about the increasingly poor OOC schedule. But it should be noted to the point above that with the exception of Akron and KSU, I think we've played all those MAC schools recently---also, isn't it Miami that wants to get out of playing us?. Also, we have played UC and OSU since Donlon has been here. It's not as if we can force them into playing us every year---it'd be nice, but what we want (a return game) in most cases with power conference teams they won't comply with. Now I think that we should still take those games regardless a la Gonzaga/Butler. For the sake of discussion, if we played a ton of MAC schools every year, I could picture people on this board complaining with "why the hell are we just playing these MAC schools..."

I am happy to see a few MAC schools on the schedule but, loading up on them makes me feel like it regionalizes us. I think that is a mistake to limit us that way.

KofX, Dogbert,ecb,...I love all your comments. Play a solid schedule and win your share of the games and we might be in the NCAA or maybe the NIT even w/o the HL crown. Other conferences get multiple teams into the NCAA, why not the HL? Heresay!
Dogbert I had the same views as you years ago. Unfortunately President Golding wanted no mention of the Wright Bros. associated with WSU. Having it called Wright State was bad enough. Go figure. It's like a year or two ago when Ohioans voted to have a statue of Edison placed in Congress rather than the Wright Brothers. Edison was 6 when his family moved to NJ who, incidently, also has a statue of Edison in Congress. The Wright Brothers lived in Dayton for most of their lives.
ecb, a few years back WSU fans were complaining about all the MAC teams. But they also wanted to see us getting better teams on the schedule, not weaker teams. Now some of us want more MAC teams to replace the weak teams.
The fact is, the fans have been yearning for a stronger schedule with good winning records for as long as I can remember. Instead we have evolved into having a weaker schedule with mixed results. Go figure. And spending more money to get it. Man, I need to dig through my garage and see if I can find some junk to sell to WSU for a tidy sum.

At this point we don't mind to play MAC teams since most of their RPI' are better than 270. Back when we were playing the MAC teams we were wanting to upgrade the schedule.

Yes, not too long ago we were in the top 100 or 120.

3. I would take away scheduling duties from Donlon and try to put together a schedule that makes sense for us. I would only play a D1 schedule. I would play games on days and times that encourage fans to come to the Nutter Center. I would have as many Sat night games as possible and I would never have a game opposite the OSU/Mich game again. Most importantly, I would try to schedule teams locals have heard of to encourage new fans to check us out. There are plenty of good MAC, MVC, and A-10 teams that would be willing to schedule us that would draw well at the Nutter Center. +1

I would stick with Donlon for one more year and see how these new recruits pan out. After watching the NCAA survivors move into the elite 8 I have to wonder if Donlon's team is playing the same sport. Those other teams are so big, strong, fast, athletic, talented…they drive to the hoop, they press, they crash the boards, they make monster jams and 30 foot three pointers, they make WSU look like a NCAA golf team. I know Donlon has a game plan, just don't see how it can get this team very far.

Uptempo you are so right. We are not close to having a too 100 team. It is not just the players we have compared to other teams. We are only short a couple of wide bulky players from having the players. Style of play is another story.

Style of play is another story. Butler went to back to back championship games with the exact same system we run.

I think they were a little more offensive minded team with rebounding than we are currently. Plus they had a big guy with size in the middle that played big. We don't have that player currently and we did not have anyone like that when we played them.

Uptempo you are so right. We are not close to having a too 100 team. I'm all for criticizing and pointing out flaws, but that statement is categorically false. Follow this link on RPIforecase (http://www.rpiforecast.com/wizard/Wright%20St..html). They have a simulation tool where you can see what our RPI COULD have been if we had won a few extra games. If you run the sims on what I think were some of the losses that we could have won, you'll see we would have had an RPI of 100 and above. This difference is somewhat surprising considering how weak the schedule already was, and also shows just how much close losses really alter a season's outlook. IF we had beaten DePaul (blown second half lead), North Carolina A&T (still can't figure this one out), Miami OH (missed AJ FTs and Hopkins lay-up), coupled with wins at YSU (JT Yoho's missed put back), and beating UWM in the HL final, our RPI would have been 101. That covers 5 games decided by a total of 20 pts (4 pts a game). Alter the loss to CSU and the phantom foul against Vest, and the RPI goes to 90. So in essence, we were 15-18 possessions away (over the course of an entire season) from an RPI of 90 vs 172 BUT, we didn't, and the A-10's fifth place team is in the Elite 8, so whatever (time to drink...)
