Can't tell you all what happened, but WSU defeated UIC in extras this afternoon to even the series at one. Absolutely huge game tomorrow to decide the series, and give the winning team control of their own destiny heading into the tournament. FWIW, we have a significantly harder schedule down the stretch.

WSU took the crucial rubber game against UIC this afternoon 7-1. The win puts WSU in sole possession of first place in the Horizon League. Both teams have 6 conference games remaining. WSU travels to 4th place Milwaukee next weekend, and finishes the season at home against 3rd place Valpo the weekend following. UIC travels to 5th place Oakland next weekend, and finishes the season up at home against last place Youngstown State.
While WSU continues to lead the league in almost all statistical categories, we will need to finish the season out strong to claim the regular season title. WSU controls its own destiny, and will win the league if they win out. However, if the two teams end up tied at the end of the regular season, it appears WSU will need to have swept Valpo on the last weekend of the season to avoid being the 2 seed. UIC is 4-2 against Valpo, and WSU is currently 1-1 (game 3 was cancelled), and will need to finish 4-1 to take that tiebreaker.
There's still a lot to shake out, but WSU has control of the league as of now.

We're a tradition-laden program and this is how it should be every year. Hopefully they finish strong and make the NCAA Tournament (and then do some damage once they get there). Thanks again for keeping us updated! Go Raiders!

09, does the head to head record count in the tiebreaker??

Keith, head to head doesn't factor because we lost 2 of 3 at UIC and they lost 2 of 3 at WSU ( so it obviously was a wash ).

Exactly. Our best bet is just winning out...but both of those teams gave WSU some trouble. We swept Milwaukee at home, but all 3 were one run wins (one in extras) and we split with Valpo on the road earlier. Will be fun to watch UIC and WSU down the stretch...but odds are they end up 1-2, and meet in the championship game either way, but it's a double elimination tournament, which means you don't want to be in the losers bracket.

It's not really focused on very much because it doesn't seem to play a role like it does in the Men's basketball tourney, but WSU's baseball RPI is 72 right now. There is some other ranking called the Nolan Power Index that has them at 36. warrennolan.com/baseball/2015/schedule/Wright-State That RPI ranking, going back to 2007, is by far the highest WSU has been this late in the year. The''ve generally been in the 100-150 range (so top half of all D-I baseball). WSU is 3-6 versus the top 50 in RPI as well. The HL conference ranking is 15 out of 32, so similar to basketball.

UIC swept Oakland this weekend as expected. WSU needs a win today in the worst of ways. A loss today pretty much solidfies WSU as the 2 seed, and gives the league championship to UIC.
With a win today, WSU needs to sweep Valpo next weekend, and hope YSU can take one from UIC next weekend. However, if UIC sweeps YSU what we do against Valpo is pretty meaningless.
The one seed gets slighlty better matchups, but it appears the Raiders and Flames are on a crash course for the league championship game.

09, they played two yesterday because of possible weather coming in.

I just realized that now...I'm out of the normal loop up here.
So it all comes down to this weekend. The Raiders need a sweep of Valpo and YSU to take one from UIC. Anything short of that will give UIC the regular season championship.
I guess hypothetically we could lose onr against VU if YSU took 2 from UIC, but that seems unlikely.

The WSU baseball team finished up out of conference play yesterday, laying into Toledo 7-1 at Nischwitz Stadium.
WSU finished the out of conference season an impressive 17-6, including going 8-0 at home. Even more impressive, they finished 11-0 against the state of Ohio (out of conference games) Taking in to account they went 2-4 against nationally ranked squads, the Raiders put together a very impressive out of conference season.
As I previously mentioned, WSU needs to be +1 on the weekend series against Valpo in comparison to UIC's final series. Because we had a rain out game, an end of season tiebreaker for first place will not happen. If UIC sweeps Youngstown, WSU will be the 2 seed in the tournament. WSU is desperate for some help from the Penguins in order to secure the leagues top spot. FWIW, UIC swept YSU in Youngstown in late March.
