We once played a game at Valpo at like 10 (so 9a EST) in the morning on a Saturday, just because of an ESPNU broadcast schedule.
Shit happens, things change. It is what it is and it was announced long long ago.

Last night's embarrassing loss drops us to 2-9 on the road for the year. Our remaining games are @ Valparaiso, Oakland, Northern Kentucky, @ Youngstown State, and @ Cleveland State. I doubt we win more than 2 of our 5 remaining games. I think we beat Northern Kentucky and either YSU or CSU. We will lose one of those road games and I don't have any faith at all that we will beat Valpo or Oakland. Piss poor end to a season that should have been so much better with the seniors we have. Next year is going to be down right abysmal with the roster we have returning.

If the jump shots go in we can beat any of them. If the jump shot don't go in we could lose all 5.

WSU sits at 16-11 overall, including D-II games, and with a win against Oakland has a legit shot at a 20 win season, which none of us probably thought back when they were 3-7.
While we are all worried about OU, I wouldn't sleep on NKU either. They've won at OU and UDM this year (two places we lost at). With the losses by the Wisconsin schools yesterday, we are two games up in the loss column on both, so anything worse than 3rd is even less likely than before yesterday's play.

If we beat Oakland, we will have a great chance for the 2 seed. The Grizzlies and whomever else, would have to finish a game up on us to get it, since we would hold the tiebreaker with a sweep of Valpo. Big game on Monday, I know I'm leaving work early for it. I'm not too hopeful, but it would be nice if we get a big crowd for the ESPNU matchup.

If we win tomorrow there is a chance we could even take first place. I believe Valpo losing to us has destroyed the confidence of the Crusaders. They will be playing with the do not lose mentality and that will hurt them.

They will be playing with the do not lose mentality and that will hurt them. I would be lying if I said the thought didn't also cross my mind. I don't put losing two of their last games past Valpo, unlikely as it is. However, I also don't put losing two of our last four past this team. The key is OU for sure, but also avoiding the struggles that have plagued this team on past northern Ohio road trips (Feb 2007 game at YSU anyone?)

Not sure if it makes too much difference, but after Monday's game, the team gets a good amount of rest the rest of the year. From 2/16-2/27, the team only plays three games, with five days between the NKU rematch and the trip to YSU. Considering the minutes that some guys are logging (i.e. JT and his knee), this better schedule, if coupled with a double bye, would be huge.

There is still a lot to hash out in league play. Obviously tonight's game is the start of it, but here how I believe it shakes out.
WSU wins out, WSU is the two seed, assuming Valpo doesn't lay a huge egg in Wisconsin. Technically we could still be the #1 seed if Valpo drops two games down the stretch.
If we lose tonight to Oakland, we've got an uphill battle. We have to win out and have Oakland lose two of their last three. They wrap up play at Valpo and UIC, then finish up with Detroit.
If Oakland wins out, they could theoretically be the #1 seed, again, relying on at least one other Valpo besides their showdown at the ARC.
Lots to hash out, but tonight will, most likely, be for the majority of the marbles. If OU wins, I don't see them losing two of their last three and give up the #2 seed, and, we'll likely be #3. OU would rather we be #4, and maybe take care of Valpo in the semis. If OU has our number tonight, that's not a bad place to be. #4 is better than #3 if we can't get through OU at home, because we won't get past them twenty minutes from the Orena.

With the loss, er, creaming, that we took tonight. Here's what we know:
-the #1 seed is gone. Valpo would need to lose out, and OU lose both of their other games (@uic, vs. Det)
-the #2 seed is still possible, but unlikely. If Valpo beats Oakland, and Oakland loses one of their other two, AND we win out, we'll be the two seed. Possible, highly unlikely.
-3 seed seems likely, but we'll need to likely win two of our last three.
I still contest we might be better at #4 where we don't have to play Oakland basically at home.
Either way, this team can't win four games in five days. We really should be trying to figure out how to be better next year.

Unless there is a miracle we are not dancing or going to the NIT this year. Maybe get into a wannabe tourney for the seniors.

All in all, we are going to end up higher than I thought. We stayed healthy through league play, and we had some really big wins.
Like I said, we don't have the chops or athleticism to win the league playing four games.
There's no reason to play in the CIT or CBI. We don't make enough money to host the games, and we have nothing to gain.
Our concern as a team, and a fan base need to be focused on how the hell we're going to compete with the increased physicality and size of this league.
Our loss today makes our win at Valpo meaningless, and the season, as good as over. We had a shot to win the league out of the 2 seed, but not any lower.

If the seniors want to play more games, and so long as we don't pay to host, I'm for it. THe CBI and CIT did allow us to get wins over teams from the A-10 and Conference USA (the latter two teams are now both in the AAC). I hope history repeats itself and WSU as a 3 seed finds its way to the finals. However, I don't like prospective matchups of playing UDM as the sixth or OU as the two seed. Regardless, there is still basketball to be played. OU goes to Valpo, plays a UIC team that is playing much better than before, and has UDM in the rivalry game. But even before that, WSU needs to just focus on taking care of business and shooting for 13 league wins, which I believe would be the 2nd highest ever WSU has had in HL play.

I'm torn on the CBI or CIT. If the seniors want to play more games, and so long as we don't pay to host, I'm for it. You don't get to say you will participate in the CBI or CIT as long as you don't have to host. You either sign the contract to participate in the tournament or you don't. We didn't want to host in the past and got stuck doing so because we signed the contract and didn't have a choice. That is the biggest problem with these play to pay tournaments. the only reason to play in one of these tournaments is if it is going to help us next year. If we had a young team and the extra practice and playing time was going to help their development I would be all for it. We aren't a young team. We go 7 deep most nights and 4 of those 7 won't be here next year. We should use the time and money we would be wasting on one of these tournaments on finishing out our recruiting class. We have 2 good players coming back next year: Benzinger and Alstork. We have a few role players and not much else. I am not impressed with either one of our signees for next year. We NEED to add a few impact players or we are going to finish dead last in the HL next year.
