With all of the negative press lately on the academic side of Wright Stste and what is being said at most fundraising events I think it is a pretty likely scenario that we have a new president in the near future.

Dr. Hopkins is retiring. This will be the last year he is at WSU.

Brian Gregory is out...anyone think he is a legitimate candidate some point soon for the WSU job? Not asking if we'd want him or not, just if anyone actually thinks he'd be approached or would be interested.

Not asking if we'd want him or not, just if anyone actually thinks he'd be approached or would be interested. Now THAT would be interesting. Kind of a Pitino-to-Louisville vibe after breaking from Kentucky for a few years. In any other part of the country, that wouldn't be a home run hire, but in Dayton fan interest would be at least piqued right away. He had a rough stretch at the high major level, but has proven he can win at a mid-major. He could follow the Gary Waters trajectory: Great at a mid major, mediocre with the big boys, then great (until everything exploded last season) at a geographically similar mid-major again. WSU has a better base to start with and better resources to grow the program that Cleveland State. If I'm Bob Grant, I'm calling him in for an interview. Not saying I want him necessarily, but it's definitely intriguing.

Wright State University likely won’t name a men’s basketball coach until next week. That’s what athletic director Bob Grant indicated on Friday. Grant said seven candidates have been interviewed. Six are current NCAA Division I head coaches and another is an assistant at a high-level program. “I’m really happy with this pool (of candidates),” Grant said. “Now our challenge is to pare the list down and keep moving as quickly as possible.”www.daytondailynews.com/news/sports/no-shortage-of-candidates-for-wright-state-job/nqsTg/The author is clueless. He list 10 possible candidates and they all have ties to UD or are HS coaches from the Dayton area.

Oh my God....Pat Kelsey? Hiring the Winthrop coach would be a debacle if he were truly a candidate, and would only be done if somebody double-dog dared Grant to completely kill fan interest going into next year(#uhyeah). I would so much rather have "little Napoleon" (as he was put) than Kelsey. Four years at Winthrop, no NIT or NCAA appearances and the have lost three Big South tournament finals in a row...at least Donlon gave us a one-year break from a stomach turning HL finals loss.
His inclusion in this list of otherwise mostly guys with ties to Dayton or UD has me thinking that there may be something behind this.

I highly highly doubt that any of those guys were interviewed. I honestly think the author put together that list to piss off Wright State fans just to piss off Grant since Grant wouldn't tell him who he has interviewed for the job so far. Wouldn't be the first time the DDN did something like that and I am sure it won't be the last.

I'm surprised he didn't include Vitaly. He isn't going to be our coach but at least he has WSU ties and makes more sense than anyone on that list.

Grant stated that he is down to seven. Six are current D1 head coaches and 1 is an assistant. He then puts out a list of 10 candidates and only 4 of them even meet the credentials of what Grant said we are down to. Ron Hunter and Pat Kelsey are current D1 head coaches. Lamont Paris and Dave Dickerson are current D1 assistants. The rest are a bunch of guys that couldn't possible be in our final seven.

Looking at the GSU message board, the only school they've been really worried about Hunter going to prior to landing on our short list (probably) is Georgia Tech. Now that that's open, the plot thickens.

I still believe we need a coach with name recognition to get better recruits. If Hunter goes to Georgia Tech the school name will attract players to the school.
Approach a high caliber recruit with a school named Wright State, they don't even know what part of country we are in. Then add a name of a coach that is not well known and it makes it worse. Don't like the name retread coach but it might help recruiting. Better recruiting is what we have been lacking.
We need some 3 star recruits that execute not no star recruits putting out a 110% effort.
