Well it looks like my time as a season ticket holder has come to an end. I thought that by hiring Coach Nagy we would finally get to see Wright State play a real schedule. Unfortunately Bob Grant has too much say over scheduling and continues to force our coaches to schedule non D1 games. I refuse to keep paying money to see shit games like this. I won't be renewing and I doubt I will see Wright State play more than 3-4 games this year. I can only hope our new President replaces Bob Grant with an AD that knows how to run a D1 organization.

A lot of these games are really competitive!

I agree that several of these games look like competitive games. However, I am also frustrated by the non D1 games. I can handle the non D1 connected to the tournament but the additional non D1 game is completely unacceptable for a program that wants to rise to the next level. It makes the program look very amateur to the outside observer. Not the way to build (or maintain) a fan base. I would rather see them go on the road for a buy game against a power conference school. Speaking of buy games, does anyone know if the Missouri State and Loyola games are buy games or the start of a series? I know we played Southern Illinois and Loyola last year in buy games so I assume these might be the same deal. Go Raiders!

I agree the D I games scheduled should be competitive. Kent should be in the top 3 in the MAC, Missouri State one of the top teams in the MVC and Fairfield should be near the top of their league. However, having two non D I programs comprise 28.5% of the home non-con schedule more than offsets the rest of the schedule. Those 2 make it suck. I'm all for the MTE, but consider it's over a holiday weekend where many regulars may be out of town or too busy to attend all 3 games the two non D I programs just sort of put salt in the wound of season ticket holders.
I agree with Rush the Court...I was chastised back in May for saying Grant needed to step up, particularly with being decisive with the softball coach. I stated he would dawdle. I was told to give him time...if the coach still had the "interim" tag next to her name in August then--and only then--I had the right to bitch that he dawdled. Guess what? It's August and Justine still has the title "Interim Coach." The only coach left in America that had that title in May that still has that today. He's done nothing to see in those nearly 3 months. The Swimming & Diving teams had to save themselves with the help of friends, family, the community, and other swimmers and divers throughout the country. Grant did nothing. Now, we're presented with this home non-con schedule and it's obvious Grant didn't pull any strings and allow Nagy to take another road buy game so that we could use those funds to offset our own home buy game with a decent D I program.
Back to the schedule. So, who are we scrimmaging? The NCAA allows 2 exhibition games or 1 exhibition and 1 scrimmage vs a D. I program. It's allowable to know who scrimmages whom, but it must be closed to the public and the results and stats are supposed to be kept "secret." Any ideas on who, when, and where??

There is no non-D1 game connected to the tournament. Fairfield, Gardner-Webb, & Jacksonville are all D1 programs. Tiffin and Ohio Valley, whoever that is, are both non-D1 programs that are on the schedule. Once again we get stuck with this bullshit scheduling.

Both the schedule and press release indicate the Tiffin game is part of the tournament.

BBJ, the release on wsuraiders.com says that Tiffin is the official start to the tournament ( last year, Ohio Dominican was part of it ).

Every game on the schedule, apart from the Georgia Tech game most likely, is a "winnable" game. That said, I could also see us losing almost every single game, apart from like the D2s. Like Murray State, Kent State, Toledo, Loyola, Missouri State, WKU. Those are all good mid-majors, really comparable to our own standings many years. This team seems to be really hard to predict how the year will go and it could fall either way in any and all of those competitive games. Anyone have any insight into what to expect from the team this year, or any predictions on our non-conference record?

RaiderFan, here's what 2 "experts" feel about our non-con schedule. Jerry Palm doesn't have one program on our schedule in his latest bracketology (July 28). He has Oakland as a 15 seed, getting the HL auto.
Lunardi's latest bracketology (June 1) has Oakland with the HL auto and a 14 seed. He has Loyola and Kent both getting the auto's for their respective conferences and both "earning" a 15 seed. He has Fairfield a Strong 16 seed...avoiding the play-in games.
Historical perception and recognizable names aside, I'm not sure if programs that can't earn an at-large or a seed better than 14 deserve to be labeled "good mid-majors."

Just more BS from the Athletic Department to try and justify playing a D2 team. They can try to spin it it any way they want but Tiffin is not part of the 3 day event so saying this game is the start of the tournament is just plain Bovine Fecal Matter.

BBJ, I agree with you about Tiffin since they aren't part of the round-robin portion but, there are some exempt tourneys that start out with home games and end up at destination sites.
I still haven't opened the email concerning renewal but, did open what was sent in the mail...where they mentioned the home games with 2 to be added ( you want to guess the 2 that were added? ).
At least people can see the home portion in a timely manner before deciding to renew.

What I find extremely disconcerting is the fact that we were scheduling not knowing if IUPUI was going to be on the schedule this year or not. So if they didn't join until next year, were we planning on playing 4 non D1 games this year.
