As it stands, we’re returning less than 50% of our minutes from last year. I don’t think any transfer is a major loss, but we do have that and our two best players graduating to replace. Nagy will have to look at the portal or this could go from one of the most experienced rosters in college basketball to one of the least experienced in an age where not many players will grow with the program.

I'm always frustrated when players transfer out...I'm just too old school (or just too old) to relate to that. Telling myself that that is the new normal doesn't help me much. I'm guessing Nagy and I feel the same on that issue. That said...
I think Nagy wanted something out of Braun that just didn't fit his skill-set. Offensively, Braun is almost automatic when he gets to the rim. His ability to score down low is very, very good. I also think he's a good defender when asked to defend near the rim...he's not good at chasing "his" guy out to the foul line - or further - and then rolling back to the rim to defend - or help defend. Nagy's stubborn insistence on that type of defense is maddening...and now we've lost a very good big-man because of it...That's my opinion, I have zero inside knowledge.
It is clear that Welage is a good offensive player and not the best defender. HOWEVER, he was yet-another player who was a 2-3 in high school that Nagy wanted to defend the 3-4. He put on good weight this past offseason to bulk up. I also think that Welage is a guy who never got in Nagy's good graces. Seemingly every time he made a mistake, Nagy would throw a fit on the sideline and Welage would soon come out of the game. Conversely, other players like Calvin, Holden, Finke, etc could make a boneheaded play and virtually never come out of the game. We never tried to get the guy in a position to be effective offensively - a trait that we exhibit for more than just Welage.
I have no idea on Anderson. I looked at the "Recruiting" page and saw that it was us and Ball State that were 'after' him. I would have liked for him to work out and be that feel-good local story. That torch now passes to kid from up north...Brusketter (sp?).
I believe that Nagy is going to have to change his (and my own) attitude on transfers and playing freshman starting now. We have two big kids at 6'10"and 230 pounds as incoming freshmen. I hope that Nagy doesn't believe that Noel should be the 5 and Drey - also a guard/wing in HS - to be messing around too much in the paint.
If this is the roster, then we could use a transfer - or two:
Brown, Norris, Transfer (unless the Callaghan kid can play the point) Hube, Woods, Callaghan, Brusketter (freshman) Noel, Carter, Transfer, Schweiger? Two big freshmen, Transfer (wishing that was Braun)
In any event, either bringing in a couple guys and/or putting freshmen on the floor is in order. I don't think any freshman should (can?) RS this year.

Wright State G Kaden Brown has entered the transfer portal. A surprise but not a disappointment. There will be good point guards in the portal. We now can use two of them and split time close to 50/50.

Norris must be feeling pretty good about his decision to redshirt right about now.
In line for about 38 minutes and 4 points per game. Yay?

KK was a turnover machine, but would have grown here pretty well once things slowed down for him. We needed a reset as this team just hasn’t been very good, but now it could be a rough few years waiting for freshman and sophomores to develop.

Looking like it is going to be a rough season next year if we don't hit the portal hard. Does anyone know if Nagy is planning to retire maybe that could be the indicator of some moves?

Nagy's quotes in the DDN article about Grant's retirement didn't seem indicative of someone on their way out.
Hopefully some kids we were recruiting out of HS that went elsewhere hit the portal. That's likely our best bet for everyone wanting us to sign some new transfers for next year.

Too bad about Kaden. I met his dad at the Colorado State game and he was really excited that KK was going to play. He looks super young, and I think he has a lot of upside that relates to that. He also has that killer instinct just based on his demeanor. Best of luck.

Five guys in the portal....at this rate I'm reminded of that seen in Hoosiers where the locals ask Gene Hackman (after he finished the game with 4 players) if he'd play 3 the next game....

There are reasons to think Anderson was in over his head. See Nagy’s comments in DDN. Reason to think Welage has peaked. Reason to think sweiger may have never started a game at Wright. KK May be great, could be a big loss. Could be a flop. Un proven.
Starting to be excited by how many scholarships we now have.

Why on earth would you be excited about the number of open scholarships we have. At no time whatsoever has this staff shown the ability to land anyone worth a shit in the late signing period that they did not already have a prior relationship with let alone multiple players. Nagy will probably sign 4 high school seniors and still decide to redshirt all 7 incoming freshmen.
