There are reasons to think Anderson was in over his head. See Nagy’s comments in DDN. Reason to think Welage has peaked. Reason to think sweiger may have never started a game at Wright. KK May be great, could be a big loss. Could be a flop. Un proven. Starting to be excited by how many scholarships we now have. Why on earth would you be excited about the number of open scholarships we have. At no time whatsoever has this staff shown the ability to land anyone worth a shit in the late signing period that they did not already have a prior relationship with let alone multiple players. Nagy will probably sign 4 high school seniors and still decide to redshirt all 7 incoming freshmen. +1. If you follow our assistant coaches on X, you can deduct who they are recruiting based on the players they follow. If you look at what they have been doing since the season ended it is very very clear they don’t have a plan. Clint Sargent hasn’t started following anyone new. He has only been recruiting 2025 recruits. Travis Trice has started to follow a few D2 transfers and the YSU transfer. Dan Bere has started to follow a few D2 transfers, a few JUCO kids, and a few D1 transfers. There is not a single recruit on the list of kids they started following I want and none of them are upgrades over what we just lost.

Honestly at this point I'd feel better if the three incoming freshman just played normal minutes rather than see what D2 transfers are brought in. Solomon and Norris are at point with Alex, Noel, Logan and Drey rounding out the rest. Let the three freshman play and get experience. I'd rather see a team take lumps with young kids than watch a .500 team full of Xfers come in.

Losing Brown is a huge blow to this team IMO. As far as I know, that leaves ONE guy on the team who can play the point guard...and I don't think he's a D1 guy...even though he will probably play Finke-like minutes.
Nagy now has no choice but to get involved with the portal...he needs at least (3) guys who can play in November...and that's WITH a changed mindset that will see the (2) incoming freshman bigs NOT redshirt.
This is trending very poorly.

If this is still true in a week or two, I'd be concerned, but not yet. Many of the players that will be available in the portal are still playing (NCAA, NIT, other buy-in tourneys) -- especially the good ones who may look to drop down from a power conference team to get more playing time. Also, when they hit the portal, the coaches need a couple days to look at tape and history to see if this is a kid they want to reach out to. I would not expect them to just shotgun to every name the day they hit the portal without doing some evaluating.

FWIW - the good programs are back-channeling already before kids hit the portal and have a good idea who is going to become available and many kids enter the portal already with a good idea where they are going. If our coaches are waiting a couple days before even evaluating kids they may be interested in we are really battling with one hand behind our back.

I don’t think the coach should red shirt any of the incoming players. The transfer portal is making redshirting a waste of your recruiting. Just don’t believe sitting out a player you recruited with great effort and then redshirt them then have them go into the portal and leave is not worth that chance. We need to play 8-9 players a game a night not 7. We were obviously out of gas by the time the Horizon League tourney started.

I wonder if this was done before KK transferred and just not updated in the article.

It was written before KK entered the portal and the writer was too lazy to update it before he posted it online.

About Keaton Norris: "We feel like he's made big jumps."
Let's just say I'm skeptical, and I'll believe it when I see it. This sure sounds like coach-speak. But if its true, that could explain why KK is transferring.

If I’m not mistaken, Kaden can take a free transfer here, due to coaching change, then still use a no-sit transfer later if he decides. This seems like a smart move for him.

Not really and it doesn't matter anyways. Not really in the fact that he left before the coaching change, so if that rule was still in existence, he wouldn't qualify for that exemption. It doesn't matter anyways because that rule got shot down by the courts. Kids can transfer every year now without having to sit out.
