The transfer portal for college basketball players opens up on Monday. Are we expecting anyone from our current team to be leaving? Follow up question is will Nagy utilize the portal this year and bring in someone that can contribute next year?

I have no inside knowledge but after back to back subpar years, I expect to see at least a guy or 2 will leave. There are a few guys that are good enough to have a chance to make money playing somewhere else or didn’t play as much as they expected this year and want to move on for more playing time somewhere else.

There are 2 rumored to be leaving. I guess we will find out tomorrow if it is true or not. More importantly, we will find out over the next several weeks if Nagy is going to join everyone else in modern basketball and embrace the portal to replace the 2 that are leaving.

For him to play, we would have to have scollies available, so only if we lose a couple are we likely to gain a couple.

And he has played in the past. Cole Gentry and Tim Finke come to mind immediately, there are a few others I believe.

Not much different than bringing back former player Tanner Holden. Tim Finke had a family connection to Nagy. It goes with his MO and transfers. He has brought in an occasional transfer if it was someone we recruited previously out of high school. Since he has been at Wright State the only successful transfer pick ups he has had are Gentry, Billy Wampler, Finke, and Tanner Holden. He has never signed a JUCO. Most schools are bringing in 2-4 portal guys a year now. You almost have to bring in as many guys as you are losing otherwise you are just a program bringing in high school players and developing them for other schools. We are losing 2 starters to graduation already. The rumored transfers are another one of our starters and main guys coming off the bench. If that is all we lose, we enter next year with next to no experience and a coach that only plays experienced players. It’s a recipe for a historically terrible season.

Any hints at who the players are or where the rumors are coming from?

Now that transfers are eligible immediately the fact that we don't work the JUCO circuit is less egregious to me now. But agree with all that we should really be more active with looking to plug holes with impact transfers.
I get there is a culture element to building your roster so you'd like to recruit players you have a feel for already that would fit with your style. That's not nothing. But it shouldn't be the only thing either.

Both kind of surprised and disappointed to see Braun enter the portal. He's great in the offensive post, but I felt was lacking several other areas. Hopefully at least one of the two freshman big men will be ready to contribute immediately.

Hopefully this means no redshirt *fingers crossed* I would much rather see one of them be the big men and not have Drey or Brandon on the post. I like using Drey and Brandon as a 4 0r 3 to try and make mismatches
