This isn't necessarily a sports topic but I think it is very important to athletics going forward at Wright State. We need a president committed to athletics if we want our athletic department to move in a positive direction. We are down to 3 candidates. The first of which recently toured both WSU campuses and was interviewed below. I would be concerned for athletics if we hired him. He seems more concerned with cutting spending to balance the budget and make education cheaper for students. I want a president that is interested in growing the university, not someone that wants to make us a cheap glorified community college for local students. Wright State presidential candidate Dennis Shields says his focus is on students webapp2.wright.edu/web1/newsroom/2017/02/03/wright-state-presidential-candidate-dennis-shields-says-his-focus-is-on-students/

This thread has gone off topic. It's about this years HL tournament format change. That change is the elimination of the double bye for the top 2 seeds. There was already a long discussion about moving the tournament to Detroit last year.

I think Vest summed it up well. Like the move or not, Donlon isn't coming back. It time for Raider fans to rally behind our players and whoever our new coach will be.

We have 6 games remaining in the HL before the HL tournament: @ UIC, @ Valparaiso, Oakland, Northern Kentucky, @ Youngstown State, and @ Cleveland State. We are currently tied for second with Oakland and a game and 1/2 behind Valpo. We potentially could still end up anywhere from first place to sixth place depending on how we finish out the season. We have had fans both criticize and defend Donlon's coaching this year. I think these last 6 games will determine what kind of coach he is and if he is someone we should want to remain as our coach going forward. He shouldn't have any problem motivating this team. They have a chance at first place. Even finishing in second place gives us a buy in the HL tournament. My biggest concern is that we play 4 of our last 6 on the road and Donlon has not done a good job at winning games away from the Nutter Center this year. We are 2-8 in away games and 1-1 on neutral court games.

I think everyone is hoping we will be announcing Belmont is joining this summer, but even if we end up announcing NKU is our 10th member I still think there is a good chance we add Belmont down the road.

This game was lost because WSU is undersized. Donlon was out coached. The refs stunk. The WSU players were worn out at the end of the game. Donlon needs to recruit more big men, good big men will beat good little men almost every time. Now that our RPI is screwed and an at large bid is history, if in fact it was ever in play, Donlon needs to play everyone and focus on being fresh for league play. We should have a 6-9, 240# 4th year center on this roster, but he couldn't stay out of trouble. That is the reason we are undersized and undermanned this year.

Any win is a good win, but a road win is that much more rewarding.

I went with a C. It's a middle of the pack schedule compared to the rest of the HL.
Here are the SOS ranks for all HL schedules with average opponents' RPI from last year: 1. Oakland 84.9 2. Green Bay 130.4 3. Detroit 145.8 4. Cleveland State 160.5 5. Wright State 168.8 6. Milwaukee 169.9 7. Valparaiso 170.9 8. UIC 190.8 9. Youngstown State 231.6
Every team also has two non-DI opponents, except for YSU and Valpo, which have 3.

I suspect we'll end up with the weakest schedule in the HL and hope that we get 20 wins, what some perceive as a mark of a good season. There isn't a chance in hell we will fire a coach that just took us to back to back HL championship games to hire a local high school coach with NO COLLEGE COACHING EXPERIENCE.
