I liked seeing more players get time. Obviously I liked seeing Manns get in there. Next up should be running some plays to get him open shots. I think Finke is playing too many minutes and that leads to being tired which leads to mistakes...and not-strong legs on his shot. I did not like that we didn't sub any guys out for...what...the last half of the second half...or longer? Should have gotten those guys some rest before the 5 minute mark and let them finish strong(er). We will need that in league play and as the minutes-played pile up. I think that has been the biggest complaint from our fanbase about Nagy during his tenure. He doesn't use his bench enough and we get worn down and beat up by the end of the season when it really matters. It is encouraging that he has been playing 9 guys for the most part this year. I wish the bench was getting more minutes too but they also need to be productive to get those minutes. For the most part this year, Welage has been the only guy that has provided much production off the bench. Yesterday was encouraging having multiple guys contribute off the bench. Let's all hope that trend continues the rest of the year.

Last point about the fan base, how did we get crowds over 6,000 for most games in the 1990's! Wright State used to give out a crazy amount of tickets just to get fans in the stands back then. At one point in time we averaged over 8000 fans for the season. Maybe 3500-4000 of them were paying customers.

1 NCAA appearance since he has been here, granted Wright State coaches have been mostly underwhelming but clearly Underhill is the most successful coach in WSU history. I loved Ralph Underhill but you are delusional if you think his achievements as a coach at Wright State are anywhere even close to what Nagy has done since he has been here. Underhill coached Wright State for 9 seasons as a D1 coach. We were independent the first 4 years, then we were in the Mid Con (SL) for 3 years, then the MCC (HL) for his final 2 seasons. As a D1 coach, he had 7 winning seasons and 2 losing seasons. He won 20+ games twice. He never won a regular season conference championship. He had 1 post season appearance going to the NCAAs. His overall record was 147-109. His conference record was 28-22 in the Mid Con and 14-16 in the MCC. This is Nagy's 6th season at Wright State. He had winning seasons his first 5 years here. He has won 20+ games 4 times. He has won the regular season conference championship 3 years in a row. He has 3 post season invites, 1 NCAA and 2 NIT (we didn't get to compete in 2020 due to Covid). His overall record at Wright State is 111-55. His conference record is 70-24.

This team has no depth. In this game, our bench played a total of 32 minutes, scored 6 points, and grabbed 2 rebounds. By comparison, CSU's bench played 64 minutes, scored 37 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. That's a huge disparity in talent off of the bench in favor of CSU. Unless we start getting some production from our bench players, this is shaping up as a mediocre team who will finish in the middle of the pack in the HL. We definitely need more production from our bench but this is not a middle of the pack HL team. At worst, I think we finish 3rd behind CSU and Oakland. We just lost to the deepest and most well coached team in the HL. A couple of days ago we blew out Fort Wayne. They just blew out NKU who was predicted to finish 3rd in the HL. We need the defense to improve. We need a more consistent contribution from our bench. Most importantly, we need our staff to make adjustments. This team is lacking a couple of athletic guards that can create their own shot and defend our opposing teams guards. Our coaches need to come up with a game plan to compensate for that because Vaughn Duggins isn’t walking through the door tomorrow to help us finish out the year. These are the players we have on our roster. We need to find a way to get the most out of what they are capable of doing. If they aren’t athletic enough to play man to man against some of these athletes we are facing this year we need to try some type of zone. I can’t get mad at Finke or Holden because they aren’t quick enough to defend some of these shorter quicker guards in the HL. It’s not their fault our coaches brought in an undersized post in Wilbourn and another wing in Voss and sat on their last scholarship instead of bringing in 2-3 athletic guards. It’s not their fault they are playing out of position. This is on our coaching staff. They need to figure out how to make it work. They hand picked this roster.

Today's a big game for both CSU and WSU. Today is a great opportunity for Wright State to put that 5 game losing streak behind us and get this season back on track. I really really hope we rise to the challenge today.

I think it is a big achievement that Nagy was able to change his path. Most WSU coaches in the past have been very stubborn with their my-way-or-the-highway mentality. This team has two superstars and nine others that are quite capable. Would like to see them playing eleven players when all are healthy, leaving the walk-ons and Manns for mop up time. Would love to see two bigs on the floor at all times when Noel gets healthy. I think tomorrow will be the real test of Nagy's ability to get out of his comfort zone in order to win a game. Our defense is still not performing anywhere near where it needs to be for us to be a championship level team. I think our biggest concern should be our inability to stop guard penetration. We had no answer for Fort Wayne's PG and SG yesterday. The drove the lane at will and created easy inside shots for themselves or kicked it out to create wide open looks for their teammates. Our guards have not defended this well all year and our help defense has been less than effective. This is where we can be in serious trouble Saturday if we stick with our straight man to man defense vs CSU. That is mostly what their guards do. They are very aggressive going to the hoop trying to pick up high percentage shots and trying to create old fashion 3 point plays at the hoop. We struggled with that last season when our defense was much better than it currently is. Teams that CSU struggles with are zone defenses that force them to shoot from outside. They aren't very good 3 point shooters for the most part. We all know Nagy hates zone defense and is a die hard man to man guy. If he sticks to his old ways and we play strictly man to man, I don't think we are going to win tomorrow. If he at least mixes it up with some zone looks here and there, I think it gives us a much better chance to win.

Surprised there’s been zero commentary on this since it was posted. We’ve got some big time losing programs with an ncaa transfer situation at exactly the wrong time. WSU is losing cash for losing programs. I don’t want to see it but I think the odds are D2. You really need to go back and read some of the earlier articles in the thread because dropping to D2 isn’t even one of the potential options because the cost of running a D2 athletic department isn’t a whole lot less than running a D1 athletic department. We are either adding sports back and remaining D1, dropping down to D3, or dropping sports all together. From everyone I have talked to in the athletic department and on our board of trustees I can tell you we have no plans to drop out of D1. Quite honestly, if I thought otherwise I would have already moved on from this site. I won't be following or financially supporting a D3 program.

The title of your post is statistical reasons (plural) why we are losing but you only came up with our poor three point shooting percentage.
Here are the other reasons: Our defense has been atrocious. Can you think of another Wright State team in recent memory giving up this many points per game? Our rebounding has been sub par. Our starters are playing too many minutes Our bench has contributed very little scoring/rebounding so far this year. Braun and Welage gave us a little bit of hope this past week that they maybe able to step up and contribute more.
