Brownell would probably be a Mid-Major legend if he stayed at WSU or some other Mid Major school..but not make as much money of course. I don't know about that. His 2008 and 2009 roster were not great and the freshmen class was horrible. Looking back I kind of question his tournament run. Great time though! Grass is not always greener. At least BG is great at spotting talent. |

At least BG is great at spotting talent. Most of Brownell’s teams would curb stomp their way through the current HL. The HL was a premier mid-major conference rated between 10-15 when Brownell was here. It’s a low major now rated between 20-25. His biggest problem with recruiting was the fact that he mainly recruited during the early signing period. Once each season was over he went into interview mode and started looking for his next job and left recruiting up to his assistants. If he was truly committed to being at Wright State and put the effort into recruiting that he put into getting his next job, he could have really built us into a powerhouse. Even so, he still put together some really solid rosters. The 2 years you specifically mentioned still had as much or more talent as our current roster. That 2008 team had Vaughn Duggins, Todd Brown, Jordan Pleiman, N’gai Evans, and Scottie Wilson. All of those guys made a living playing ball for awhile overseas after graduation. That 2009 team added Cory Cooperwood to the list of future pros from the Raiders. |
