Today the Horizon League has dropped to 29th place. The OVC is 15th and the Summit League is 12th. Time to get off this sinking ship. And to think that just a few years ago there was a great chance to lock up Murray State and Belmont. How is LeCrone still in charge? That is actually a question I have had. Is there anyone who is familiar with the technicalities and administrative workings of that? Who appoints or elects the commissioner? Is he on contract (yearly, bi-yearly, longer?), what are stipulations for changes, are there appointment limits? I am just curious how all of that works. Can anyone point me in the direction of information?

I would think his contract would be handled by the Athletic Directors and Presidents of the member institutions

fan, this league has been rudderless since the butler days. there has been no push from the top for teams to build their programs. instead of pushing our programs to schedule better (ala mvc or a10) our league encourages us to schedule div ii/iii. so our best programs who want to excel move to other leagues. meanwhile the rest of us just piddle along settling for mediocrity. if lecrone is not fired soon we will know that the programs in this league are satisfied with the status quo.

The HL's record vs D1 competition to date is 28-50. Milwaukee, NKU, & Oakland are the only teams with a winning record. We are .500. The 6 bottom dwellers are 9-36. There are 351 D1 teams, and IUPUI & YSU have RPI's of 345 & 346.
6 months ago everyone on here was chirping about the HL adding the likes of Belmont, Murray State, Robert Morris, etc. I don't think any of those teams are itching to join a league mired at the bottom of the heap. The HL is now a Low Major conference.

The HL is indeed a dumpster fire. I do think it is fair to give it a couple of years with all of the new coaches to see where it goes from here. However, I'd be absolutely overjoyed if we left the league, seeing as Lecrone doesn't seem to be out the door anytime soon and at the end of the day, he alone can do a good job at keeping this league in a downward spiral with his lack of leadership. We could win this year. Premature question about the First Four. The four teams that go who are automatic bids for winning their conference tournaments, are they put in the First Four because they are the lowest ranked automatic bids, or is it the auto bids from the four worst ranked conferences?

Lowest rated teams. Not lowest rated conference.

Correct. I thought there were still some conferences without automatic bids but I think that changed when they went to the 4 lowest seeds playing each other and the last 4 at large playing each other. www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2017-03-12/march-madness-bracket-how-68-teams-are-selected-division-iThe last four at-large teams on the overall seed list, as well as teams seeded 65 through 68, will be paired to compete in the First Four games on Tuesday and Wednesday following the announcement of the field. (If allowed, the last at-large team on the seed list will be paired with the second-to-last at-large team on the seed list. The other First Four games will consist of the third-to-last at-large team on the seed list playing the fourth-to-last at-large team on the seed list, as well as seed 65 versus 66; and seed 67 versus 68).

The notion that an automatic bid might play in the First Four games irks me ( I think they should automatically be in the 64 and then I don't care about the at-large choices fighting to join them ). I'm told that they still get a regular share for the conference but, I still don't think it is right.

50% of the HL has a RPI 300+.
2/3 of HL has a RPI in bottom 1/3 of all D I programs.
70% of HL has RPI 200+
HL is one of seven conferences without a program with a top 100 RPI.
HL is 1 of 4 conferences without a program in the top 100 RPI, but with 3+ programs sub 300 RPI (Big South, MEAC, SWAC).
The odds are higher than ever the HL plays in first four if chalk doesn't hold in the HL tournament.

We will probably end up staying in the Horizon because of the financial situation at WSU that keeps getting deeper in the hole every day in the news for now. We might be here until the conference implodes on itself.
